Calling writers!

What happens when the promises of complementarian theology don’t match real-life marriages?

In the next issue of Mutuality, we’re exploring whether hierarchy creates biblical expectations—or sets couples up for disappointment. We’ll consider questions about leadership, submission, mutual decision-making, and the expectations we bring into marriage.

We welcome reflections from women and men of all backgrounds, cultures, denominations, and socioeconomic levels.

Dear She is Called Community ~ as you know, we highly value hospitality and belonging, alongside gifts and callings. In September, our director, Rev. Dr. Liz, had the chance to attend a 2-day workshop “Unreasonable Hospitality, developed by Will Guidara. Held in the Empire State Building’s LinkedIn offices (so amazing), it was facilitated by The Hive Collective - an inspiring, capable, caring group of women based in NYC metro area. Liz reports: “Carla & team built community and created a transformational, safe learning environment that mirrored Will Guidara’s very best practices. Not only were we invited to consider the implications for unreasonable hospitality in our organizations, but also for ourselves as leaders. Iron sharpened iron as execs from a curated cross-section of industry leaders worked through the material. I left with an even deeper commitment to the work I love, with fresh ideas and some strategic next steps to bring it back to my context.”
Friends, we know life is busy and budgets are tight, but do not neglect to nurture your passions and calling through periodic prof. development with like-hearted colleagues. It can be a game changer on many levels! Blessings as you live into your God-given gifts and callings. We are praying for you! 🙏🏽🙏🏾🙏🏼💝

From our friends at New Brunswick Theological Seminary:
In a world that can leave us overwhelmed, exhausted, and searching for hope, how do we remain spiritually and mentally equipped to lead, serve, and pursue justice?
This year, the WELL Program at New Brunswick Theological Seminary invites you to WELL Conference 26: “Revived and Empowered,” an all-day conference focused on wellbeing, faith, leadership, and the work of serving others in a challenging world. We are honored to welcome The Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III as our keynote speaker.

This Sunday is World Communion, where Christians across the globe will gather at the Table of grace, forgiveness, and love. 🫓🍷🌏 Thank you, Jan Richardson, for this beautiful reminder.

Near the end of her life, one of my aunts was at a dinner table at the home of friends. During the dinner, she asked a pastor who was at the table, “What do you think heaven is like?” The pastor paused, looked around the table, and said, “I think it’s a lot like this, only with more people.” I love how a table invites us to know this, and how it calls us into a life that is not just for “someday” but is present here and now.

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. In celebration and in hope, this blessing is for you. Every day.

AND THE TABLE WILL BE WIDE

And the table
will be wide.
And the welcome
will be wide.
And the arms
will open wide
to gather us in.
And our hearts
will open wide
to receive.

And we will come
as children who trust
there is enough.
And we will come
unhindered and free.
And our aching
will be met
with bread.
And our sorrow
will be met
with w**e.

And we will open our hands
to the feast
without shame.
And we will turn
toward each other
without fear.
And we will give up
our appetite
for despair.
And we will taste
and know
of delight.

And we will become bread
for a hungering world.
And we will become drink
for those who thirst.
And the blessed
will become the blessing.
And everywhere
will be the feast.
