You Are Already Standing on Holy Ground

Most of our lives are ordinary.

We wake up, make coffee, go to work, care for our families, run errands, answer emails, sit in traffic—and then do it all again the next day. Rinse and repeat.
But Moses reminds us that God can meet us right in the middle of the ordinary.
Moses wasn’t searching for a profound spiritual experience when he encountered the burning bush. He was simply doing his everyday work, tending sheep. But something caught his attention. He stopped. He looked closer. And there, in the middle of an ordinary day, he encountered God.
God told Moses, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
Perhaps we have been looking for holy ground in the wrong places. Holy ground isn’t only found in sanctuaries, cathedrals, mountaintops, or extraordinary moments. God meets us in the cracks of our everyday lives—in conversations, acts of kindness, moments of beauty, frustration, challenges, and opportunities to love.
And when God calls us to something more, God doesn’t promise, “You’ve got this.” Instead, God promises, “I will be with you.”
So as we leave worship and return to our ordinary routines—our homes, workplaces, classrooms, grocery stores, friendships, families, and difficult conversations—let’s practice noticing.
Look around. Listen. Pay attention.
A burning bush would certainly get our attention, but burning bush or no burning bush, we are already people who are called, blessed, and sent.

Wherever God is meeting you, wherever God is forming you, and wherever God is calling you…
You are already standing on holy ground. ❤️
