Faith Makes the Impossible Possible

“Now a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph.”

We follow Jesus with confidence that God is with us, God is FOR us and for ALL creation. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus did not happen for nothing. We can rely completely on God. We trust God and God’s will CAN happen, in, through, and around us.

God, grant it. Amen.

When we try to come to Jesus, we, like Peter, might do okay at first. Peter “started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus…” but then he began to sink and cried out for help: “Lord, save me!” Ultimately, we all falter. We sink. “I confess that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him.” (Small Catechism, 3rd article of creed) And so, Jesus comes to us. He does save us. He does not let us sink.

Genesis 32:22-31 reminds us that as we wrestle those challenges in our lives - the personal ones, the family ones, here at Bethlehem, in our country, in our world - as we wrestle, we are blessed. We are fed and forgiven. We are gathered and sent out. Even amid our struggles, God has good things in store for us. Praise be to God.
