Hey, it's Pride Month, and that means we'll be seeing all sorts of posts and proclamations that might scrape up against what we believe or understand.

Here's my offer: If you need to talk about something you've read because it's really foreign or seems contradictory to your faith or understanding of scripture or God, get in touch with me. I'm willing to talk with you.

I am not an expert in all things Bible or LGBTQIA+. Don't come at me if you just want to argue and convince me of something.

I've been working my way through my understanding of gender, sexuality, pronouns, gender dysphoria, and such as it relates to my faith and who I understand God to be. And I'm willing to talk to you about it if that would be helpful for you. I still have lots of questions Jesus and I are working on. I am not a perfect ally. And, I want to be better.

Our LGBTQIA+ siblings wear lots of invisible scars from conversations with us as we are learning. May every blessing be upon them for that teaching and pain borne for us.

If you would like to talk something through with someone who will love you and listen, and who has far less at stake during the conversation than a LGBTQIA+ friend, I'm here.

Let me be clear. I am not here for a conversation wherein you tell me that God is smaller than I have come to believe, that I clearly haven't read the Bible if I believe God loves and delights in LGBTQIA+ people. That's not what I'm offering. That's a boundary I'm drawing.

A blessed Pride Month to you.

Peace and health,
Pastor Kelly

Summer often brings vacations, travels, and opportunities to step out of the busyness of our daily lives. We visit with family and friends, encounter new places and experiences, and enjoy rest and relaxation.

Scripture tells us of many travelers and journeys. Abraham set off with a promise and little else. The Israelites began their forty-year trek with excitement but soon complained and grumbled when the way became difficult. Mary and Joseph had little control over their destination or departure date. The magi rerouted their trip after visiting Herod. Jesus and his disciples wandered through towns and countryside. Paul ventured out with zeal and purpose, finding welcome in some places and hostility in others.

This service progresses through the stages of many journeys: Plans and Preparations, Setting Out, On the Road, When the Way Becomes Hard, and Joyful Homecomings. Whatever our travels of life, God remains our steadfast guide and companion.

Each message will share a pastoral word, rooted in Scripture, that witnesses to God’s presence today, our rich theological tradition and the social teaching that connects us.

Lord God, we lift your your keeping the the work of your church here. For safe travels, meaningful and fruitful conversations and connections, for your will to be sought and accomplished. Make your Holy Spirit evident in this place, in our lives. Thank you, God of mercy and justice, for being present when we meet. Amen

As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin.

As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is grounded in ancient and timely teachings about a powerful and patient God.

The church is not just a building. Most importantly, the church is the people. We have not stopped being the church. Each of us reaches out in whatever way we can to make a difference, to help others know they are not alone. Phone calls. Cards. Food. Visits. Other kindnesses. We CAN and DO make a difference in the lives of others, because Jesus lives. Jesus lives in and through us.
