Zion Temple, formally known as Murphysboro Church of God in Christ, was founded in the year of 1919, by Elder Jeffery and Mother Mattie Vick. After Elder Vick's passing, Bishop Eleazar Lenox appointed Elder W.M. Pastor Miller immediately began the physical restoration of the sanctuary, as well as the spiritual restoration of the Saints. Inspired by the Holy Ghost, Pastor Miller changed the church’

s name to “Zion Temple “in 1969. Upon his death, Bishop John I. Cobb appointed Elder Stephen Robinson, Sr. as pastor, in 1996. Pastor Robinson, a holy man, full of power and faith, served Zion Temple faithfully, for many years. He continues to serve as Pastor Emeritus, under the leadership of his son, Pastor Stephen M. Robinson, Jr. Pastor Stephen M. was appointed as Senior Pastor, by Bishop E. Patterson II, in March of 2014. ”Pastor Stevie”, an anointed, visionary leader, is committed to leading this great ministry, full of such rich heritage, with the same power, dignity and effectiveness, as did his predecessors.

It is great sorrow that we report the sudden transition of our Elder Demetrius Walton. Please keep his Wife Angela, his Children, his Siblings, District Missionary Eugenia Robinson, Family & Friends in your prayers during this difficult time.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Demetrius D. Walton, age 60, who departed this life on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Menomonie, WI.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, located at 604 N. Marion St., Carbondale. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation prior to the service, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Church.

We invite all who knew Demetrius to join us in honoring his memory and sharing in the celebration of his life.
