PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! READ THIS! AND BE VIGILANT!
Earlier today I learned that one of our members fell victim to a text scam. We're all familiar with email scams, but now they are targeting cell phones. As I have previously indicated, I will never send an email (or now a text message) requesting gift cards. or money.
In this case, the perpetrator sent a text message, indicating I was in a meeting and utilizing someone else's phone. The message indicated I had left my phone at the office and I was tied up in this meeting. For that reason, could you pick up these cards for someone who needed them right away and I would reimburse you when I got back. This individual asked a few questions to determine it was me. While the responses were somewhat vague, they were close enough to the truth for this individual to believe it was really me. The last question asked was very specific and when the response was spot on, that clinched it for this individual. Needless to say, it wasn't me!
It angers me that someone would use my title to play on your caring and generous hearts, but Jesus says, we must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. No situation is that crucial that would need your immediate response. This could transpire between friends, family members and business associates.
Should you receive a similar request, take time to reach out to that individual by another means of communication to ensure this does not happen to you. Should you have any questions, please contact me immediately!
