UMO Theatre to Present The Prince of Egypt April 17–19

MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive Theatre Arts program is entering its final week of preparation for The Prince of Egypt, set to take the stage April 17–19 in Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall.

Marking the University’s first full-scale musical of this scope, the production brings together a talented cast and crew of students delivering a powerful story of faith, freedom, and reconciliation.

Directed by Holly Rector, the show highlights months of preparation, with students taking on multiple roles both on stage and behind the scenes. The production features a strong vocal ensemble, supported by a newly installed sound system that will create an immersive audience experience.

“This is a big, meaningful production for our students and for UMO,” Rector said. “The music is powerful, and the story resonates in a way that we hope will stay with audiences long after the final curtain.”

Performances will be held Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, at 6 PM, with a Sunday matinee on April 19 at 4 PM. The show runs approximately two hours and 20 minutes and includes an intermission. Tickets are available now at www.umo.edu/Prince-of-Egypt. Seating is limited, and early reservations are encouraged.

The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The University was founded by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists. For more information, visit www.umo.edu.

Two of our Three ordinances are celebrated and were instituted on the Thursday before Good Friday:

The Lord’s Supper: We believe the Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of the death of Christ for our sins. Christ used the bread as the symbol of His broken body and the cup as the symbol of His shed blood. In receiving the bread and cup, believers express their communion with and commitment to Christ, their expectation of His return, and their hope of eternal life.3

Washing the Saints’ Feet: We believe Washing the Saint’s Feet teaches humility, servanthood, and the need for daily cleansing from all sin. This practice was instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ as an example on the night of His Last Supper and betrayal.4

We believe our Lord Jesus Christ instituted three sacred ordinances.

The first being Christian Baptism: We believe baptism is the immersion of believers in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.1 Baptism symbolizes the burial and resurrection of Christ, the death of Christians to the world, the cleansing of their souls from sin, their rising to newness of life, their commitment to serve God, and their resurrection at the last day.2

It is the duty and privilege of every believer to observe these sacred ordinances. We believe these ordinances are open to all believers.
