👨‍👦 Father God, Father Abraham, and Us

This week, we took a deep look at what it means to be a godly father, looking at both the legacy of Father Abraham and the ultimate example of our Father God.
Today’s churches need and thank God for earthly fathers who step up in three key areas:

🫵 1. They Follow God

Walking through the tension: Even when battling deep, conflicting emotions, godly fathers choose to trust God's leading.

Stepping into the unknown: True faith means stepping out without a safety net, fully trusting that God is faithful to provide.

A watchful audience: Whether we realize it or not, the people around us—especially our families—are watching how we walk through uncertainty.

🏡 2. They Care for Their Family

Providing with intention: A father’s care reflects God's direction, leaving a lasting, shaping impact on his children's lives.

An enduring legacy: When a father is actively engaged and present, he leaves a legacy that echoes far beyond the immediate moment.

⛪ 3. They Care for Their Church Family

A bigger vision: Abraham understood that God’s plan extended far beyond his immediate, flesh-and-blood household.

Beyond the front door: A father’s care shouldn't stop at home. We are all invited to look around and offer a guiding, mentoring, and nurturing presence to our broader church family.

❤️ The Ultimate Summary: God as Our Father & Sovereign

Throughout Abraham’s story, we see the beautiful, relentless heart of God as our ultimate Father. Even in the midst of human missteps, God continually steps in to lovingly build, redeem, and protect His people.

As you head into this week, reflect on these three powerful questions:

1. If God can make something beautiful out of an imperfect man like Abraham, what might He do with you?
2. If God can build a powerful nation out of an outcast like Ishmael, what might He do through you?
3. If God gave you the gift of His favor today, right now, what will you do with it?

🐑 The Lord is My Shepherd. Is He Yours?

This week, we walked through the beautiful and deeply comforting truths of Psalm 23. It’s one of the most familiar passages in scripture, but it challenges us with a very personal question: Is the Good Shepherd truly yours?

Here is a quick look at our study:

👑 1. The Lord is Jesus

The Old Testament use of Yahweh reminds us of the Exodus and the personal revealing of the Divine name (Exodus 3:14). When we look at the New Testament, the authors clearly point to Jesus as Yahweh (Hebrews 1:10-12).

As believers, we recognize that Jesus is The Lord—our Shepherd—leading us in this Psalm.

🌾 2. I Am a Sheep

Scripture frequently compares us to sheep, which teaches us a lot about our natural human condition (Psalm 95:6-7, 1 Peter 5:8). To be a sheep means:

-To be virtually defenseless and the prey of many predators.
-To need a guide.
-To need a protector.

❤️ 3. What it Means to be HIS Sheep

When we belong to the Good Shepherd, everything changes (John 10:1-15):

1. We are the reason Jesus was crucified, and the ones reconciled to God by it.
2. We are the ones who hear / know His voice in His Word and His Spirit’s leading.
3. We are the ones who follow that leadership, even if we do so imperfectly.

To help us evaluate our personal relationship with the Shepherd, reflect on these today:

•David knew God personally. Do you?
•David knew God deeply. Do you?
•David rested/trusted in God’s protection, provision, and leading. Do you?
•David trusted in God’s salvation/promises by Grace. Do you?
•David followed God’s Word and Spirit. Do you?
