Lesson 12: Today we conclude this series with Psalm 23:6 “… and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

1. Since March 25, we have studied Psalm 23 verse-by-verse and have learned about our relationship with our Shepherd. The Lord is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep.

2. Throughout our study, we have also learned that we have no want or lack; we rest in green pastures; we are guided by still waters; our souls have been restored; we are guided in the paths of righteousness; we have safe passage through the valley of the shadow of death; we fear no evil; we are comforted with His rod and staff; we feast at a table in the presence of our enemies; He anointed our head with oil; our cups runneth over; and goodness and mercy shall follow us.

3. The final words in Psalm 23 are “… and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” Psalm 23 begins and ends with the Lord. Our beginning and ending are in the hands of the Lord. He knows all about us and cares about us every day. One day we will dwell (stay) in the Lord’s presence forever. We will be in God’s house, a place of peace, joy and tranquility (John 14:1-3). How long will we dwell in the Lord’s house… five months, five years, 25 years? No, forever! The Bible says in Hebrews 7:25 that Jesus lives forever to make intercession for us. Also, in Revelation 1:17-18 (read), Jesus is the first and the last, and is alive for evermore. Therefore, since Jesus lives forever, we will dwell with Him forever.

Bible Study Lesson 11:

Today’s lesson deals with Psalm 23:6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:” (First part of the Scripture)

1. While we do not have eyes in the back of our heads, Christians have two rear guards—goodness and mercy. These two rear guards follow us wherever we go. If we only had goodness following us, this would be enough because our Shepherd is a good God, and His goodness leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). We can agree that God has been better to us than we have been to ourselves.

2. With God’s mercy following us too, the second rear guard provides an abundance of God’s protection. When man says “no,” mercy says “yes;” when we are at our wits end and have messed up, mercy forgives us. In other words, mercy kicks in when we may be guilty because of known or unknown transgressions. Lamentations 3:22 states that it is because of His mercies we are not consumed or destroyed; our Shepherd shows compassion on us despite our shortcomings. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23)!

Become aware of the two rear guards (goodness and mercy) following us every day, appreciate them, and give God praise for them.

Next week, we will conclude the series with Psalm 23:6 ”…and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Second part of the Scripture)

Today’s lesson deals with Psalm 23:5 ”… my cup runneth over.” (Third part of the Scripture)

1. Last week, we learned that the Lord is our Shepherd because He has anointed us for service. This week, we will learn that our cup overflows with God’s blessing. God always does exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20-21). When Jesus fed the 5,000 and they were full, there were yet 12 full baskets of fragments left (Matthew 14:20). This is the overflow. We can boldly declare, “I’m drinking from my saucer because my cup is overflowing.” Our God is the God of abundance. In other words, you can live off the overflow of God! This overflow also reminds me of the anointed oil, which was poured upon Aaron’s head, dripped down his beard, and onto his clothes—the overflow blessing touched every part of his body (Psalm 133:1-2).

2. Brothers and Sisters, it is time for the body of Christ to operate in the overflow anointing of God. We should not just barely make it, but should receive the abundant overflow, which is more than enough for us and others. We should rejoice in the truth that our cup runs over with joy, peace and power. Remember, your cup is full to the brim, overflowing and running into your saucer. Again, this speaks of God’s abundance in your life. Today, speak personally of your cup being full and running over!

Next week, we will discuss Psalm 23:6: “Surely good and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:” (First part of the Scripture)

Lesson 9: Wednesday Bible Study
Today’s lesson deals with Psalm 23:5 “… thou anointed my head with oil;” (Second part of the Scripture)

1. Throughout our study, we have learned that the Lord is our Shepherd; we have no want or lack; we rest in green pastures; we are guided by still waters; our souls have been restored; we are guided in the paths of righteousness; we have safe passage through the shadow of death; we fear no evil; we are comforted with His rod and staff; and we feast at a table in the presence of our enemies. Today, we will look at the importance of our heads being anointed with oil. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, oil was used to impart power and to designate a chosen vessel of God. This was clearly seen in the life of King David (1 Samuel 16:11-13). The oil was also used as impartation of healing on the sick as the Apostle James says in James 5:14; to lay hands on the sick, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. Further, the oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.

2. In Psalm 23:5, God is saying that He has identified us for service and anointed us with the POWER of the Holy Spirit to accomplish His will and purpose on the earth. God’s anointing flows through us, resulting in the healing of the sick (physically and mentally- being released from torment and being set free). Remember, the ANOINTING breaks yokes and destroys burdens (Isaiah 10:27). Today, see us as being anointed vessels of God to accomplish His purpose and will on the earth. In addition, God has anointed us with the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Let Him guide you today--- the Truth (Jesus) will make or set you free!! (John 8:32

Next week, we will discuss Psalm 23:5 ”… my cup runneth over.” (Third part of the Scripture)
