My wife and I recently spent some time in the Northeast for an anniversary trip. We used the opportunity to visit a number of lighthouses in the area. This particular lighthouse is in Portland, Maine and is named the Portland Head Light. There was quite a number of people who were also interested in seeing this particular lighthouse. I spent some time thinking about why the attraction and this is where my thoughts led. If you could attach attributes to a lighthouse, this could be some of the descriptive words. It is a beacon that signifies hope, safety, strength, dependability, and resilience. It warns of danger and offers guidance to safety. It is a beloved sight to sailors who are looking for home. It presents noble thoughts and ideals to mortals thinking about their earthly existence.
That is why it is so fascinating that Jesus said in John 8:12, "I am the light of the world....." He also said to His followers in Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world..." We (the children of the King) can represent a safe harbor to a world that is full of hopelessness, danger, weakness, sinfulness, inconsistency, and fragility. It will require us to be anchored in the solid rock of God's Word and present a steady, constant, and consistent light to the World. We know the way home. Be bold and be brave so "you can proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; " I Peter 2:9
