⛪ FAITH & FOUNDATIONS: OLD TOWN CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH

Old Town Creek Baptist Church was already holding services before Alabama officially became a state.

The congregation was organized in May 1818—the same year Lawrence County was established and 19 months before Alabama entered the Union.

Located in the Mount Hope area of western Lawrence County, Old Town Creek Baptist has been part of the surrounding rural communities for more than two centuries.

Four different church buildings have housed the congregation through the years. Although those buildings changed, generations of local families continued gathering under the Old Town Creek name.

The church celebrated its bicentennial in May 2018 with the theme “Celebrating the Faithfulness of God.” Families attending the service received a historical booklet featuring drawings of each of the four buildings that had served the congregation.

More than 208 years after its organization, Old Town Creek Baptist Church remains active today—continuing a story that began before either Alabama or Lawrence County had fully taken shape.
