JAPAN- We worked hard, but we also had some fun too! Taking in some cultural sights and experiences help to bring a better understanding of the Japanese way of life and traditions... AND they have some delicious food too!

JAPAN
In a country of 122 million people, Christ-followers account for 0.7%... approximately 854,000 of that 122 million. Buddhism and Shintoism are ingrained in the Japanese culture, where fear of unhappy spirits keeps the people trapped in complacent tradition. The amazing Pastors that we've had the opportunity to meet, work alongside, encourage, and pray over, are on the frontlines of bringing the Good News of the Gospel to as many people as they can! The Aoki Bible Camp that we returned to work at in March, is gaining traction as a place to bring up the next generation in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, AND a wonderful place of retreat surrounded by God's creation! Imagine only knowing the expanse of buildings in Tokyo, and then coming to the mountains of Aoki... there's just something about getting kids into nature. 😊

The team did a tremendous amount of work - much of it cleaning and organizing of buildings and landscaping.
Projects included:
-Construction of a Low Ropes Course.
-Completion of installation of a new floor, and relocation of a stairway in the barn that is being remodeled as a chapel.
-Tons of landscaping! Reclaiming a traditional courtyard and clearing of invasive brush and trimming back of trees around the building compounds.
-Cleaning of gutters and some minor repair of tile roofing.
-Tons of cleaning. The antique machinery related to silk-worm farming and many, many sets of china that were used for village weddings, funerals, and holiday celebrations, and other artifacts in a storage building, were organized and the building was cleaned.
-Cleaning and organizing of tools and garden implements in a tool shed in the same building as the antiques.
-Creation of a lumber storage area under the raised floor of the chapel area.
-Opening of the ceiling in the main building to create a two story grand entrance, and some remodeling and painting of the second floor.
-Added some additional shelving in the kitchen area.
-At the request of Pastor Wakabayashi, we tried to knock down a haiku brush monument near the entrance to the camp (a 4-foot high engraved boulder cemented in the ground). We were unable to knock it down or break it in half with our 4-pound hand maul, but Eric chipped away the Japanese words etched into the stone. Next year!!

Please be praying for the Pastors fighting an uphill battle in Japan, for Aoki Bible Camp to be an effective tool for the Gospel, and for the congregations of the Kawaguchi, Ueda, and Nishi-Omiya Churches as they are the hands and feet of Jesus to the people of Japan!

Why does Renegade Ministry exist, and how do we end up in Minnesota, North Carolina, Zambia, Japan, Greece, and Jamaica within a 12 month timeline? Great question! We've started to use Exodus 17 to describe what we're called to do... acting as Aaron and Hur in support of the Moses' on the frontlines of their respective ministries.

"[10] So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. [11] As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. [12] When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands upβ€”one on one side, one on the otherβ€”so that his hands remained steady till sunset."
Exodus 17:10-12 NIV

Each ministry has their own mission, with joy, hardship, tasks, obstacles, expectations, and relationships.
The support that they need from us can vary on a daily basis, sometimes moment to moment. It can involve physical work, emotional or spritual support, a listening ear or soundboard, camaraderie, flexibility, and always a willing heart to serve as the Lord places the path in front of us. As we partner with them, in the name of Jesus, we advance His Gospel within their mission.
Along the way, we have met and worked with amazing men and women on the frontlines of ministry, strengthened our connections with them and their calling, and assisted them in moving their mission forward. It is an absolute gift to be able to come alongside them, and each organization listed on Moses' back holds a special place in our hearts!

Please be praying for each of them, as well as Renegade Ministry!

JAPAN 2026- And we're headed back! 🌸 This year's team of nine are going to Aoki Bible Camp to continue work on transforming the silkworm farm buildings into a kids camp, as well as building a low ropes course, doing some landscaping, and helping get the word out around Tokyo of a new church set to open Easter Sunday! Please be praying for safety as we travel, unity as a team, cooperative weather for our tasks, and that we would be a blessing to all who we interact with! πŸ™ We are grateful for the opportunity to get back there and serve!

NORTH CAROLINA:
In all of our time spent with Hurricane Helene relief over the last year, we've only heard one person say that they are GLAD this happened to them!
What?! How?!
*James 1:2-4: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything".
*Romans 5:3-5: "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

-Homeowner Michael told us that he had been a lukewarm follower of Christ, but after losing everything in his home except for his guitar and mandolin (a specific prayer of his while he watched the waters overtake his home, while watching from the ridge above), he realized that all one really has, is the Lord. Michael was so JOYFUL about the race set before him, as he tackles all that it will take to make his home livable again. He even offered to grab his tools and help US fix our truck instead of working on his projects... we thanked him, reminded him that of all the things that had happened along that river, our truck issue was the LEAST concerning, and after getting the lay of the land and hearing his story, got to work!

Michael was such a testament to God's grace and provision, even in the middle of a horrible event. One of the things he shared with us was that after giving up on rescuing his guitar and mandolin from the rising water, and being unable to get the bedroom door to open to where they were located, he knew he had to get out ASAP. Like anyone would think, he thought he'd just open up a window and climb out, but as he told his story, he laid out a horrific realization... the pressure of the water all around and filling his home had caused just enough movement in the bones of the house so that nothing was square anymore, thus nothing would open. 😳 He tried every window and door, to no avail, until the last window in the kitchen opened, and he was able to scramble up the ridge behind his house. He spoke of watching a 3 acre parcel of land with 60 foot sycamore trees go floating down river, until it churned under at a footbridge site, as well as his neighbors 10,000 square foot shop float upriver towards him, as the center current was so strong that it created a back current, until that, too, churned under and disappeared. He watched his other neighbor's home float away leaving only the chimney, never to be seen again, including the neighbor, Lenny, who was inside.
I can't even imagine.
But here stands Michael... joyful, prayerful, thankful.
Lord, help me to learn from Michael's example! πŸ™

THIRD UPDATE 10/17 at 11:30pm: The rental minivan, and our Edge, are packed and ready for a 20 hour drive back to Minnesota in the morning... we WILL be at church on Sunday to see the Gobely Family from Zambia! πŸ˜ƒ Please pray for traveling mercies and protection as we head north. As far as our truck goes, a local church contact from our last couple of trips to NC put us in touch with a tractor repair shop... they towed Renegade to their place, and will get her fixed up asap. Praising God for His provision for our team, and our family! πŸ™

SECOND UPDATE 10/16 at 10:45pm: Well, we booked a rental minivan to get the team home... still working on a place to tow and work on the truck, as places are booked out for weeks. Gonna have to come back to get Renegade. 😒

UPDATE: It's not a quick roadside fix... trying to track down a tow and repair shop that can get it turned around in 24 hours... πŸ™

NORTH CAROLINA:
**PRAYER REQUEST** We're down here for the week as a team from FBC Pillager to help with Hurricane Helene relief in these mountain hollers, and our truck broke down along Nolichucky River after our last project of the day yesterday. We had JUST backed across the RR track to get out of their driveway, and put it into gear to drive, when it immediately became evident that our rear differential is not catching the U-joint... THANKING GOD that it worked momentarily, as it was a two-point back out to get across the tracks from the angle of their dtiveway, and a train literally came through two minutes later. πŸ˜³πŸ™πŸ˜¬ We left poor Renegade along the river, and she'll get looked over by a locally recommended guy today... praying he knows exactly what to do, that it's a quick fix, isn't crazy expensive, that we will be back on the road with it to head home on a 20 hour drive Saturday-Sunday, AND for safety as all seven of us are crammed, clown-car style, in our Ford Edge. Currently headed to help out Ms. Sherry in Burnsville, NC... more to share of her story! ❀️

Thank you for your prayers!!
