The life of John the Baptist is a preparation for the coming of Jesus. John's pivotal place in the gospel is obvious considering the emphasis Luke gives to both the announcement of his birth and the birth itself.

Today we honor FATHERS! Let us pray that all men will follow the example of St. Joseph. Saint Joseph was noble and selfless. Although we don’t have much knowledge about Joseph, we do know he was humble in the way he served Mary and Jesus. He also acted out of selfless love and devotion toward his family. He is a role model for fathers to not let distractions and temptations take precedence over their Godly calling.

Two versions of this prayer are recorded in the gospels: a longer form within the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew, and a shorter form in the Gospel of Luke when "one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples'". According to The Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Our Father "is truly the summary of the whole gospel".

On this Juneteenth, we pause to remember the end of slavery in the United States. As Catholics, we affirm that every person is made in the image and likeness of God. In a key passage of his first papal encyclical, Pope Leo recently acknowledged that the Church had taken centuries to fully recognize "the scourge of slavery" as incompatible with human dignity, calling the legacy "a wound in Christian memory." "For this, in the name of the Church, I sincerely ask for pardon," he wrote in the manifesto, expressing "deep sorrow" for the suffering endured by enslaved people. Let us pray for unity and love among all people of God!
