Georgia’s First Lay Ministry Charter Awarded to Mount Pleasant Travelers Rest CME Church
On October 25, 2025, Mount Pleasant Travelers Rest CME Church achieved a historic milestone by being recognized as the first Lay Ministry CME church to receive an official charter in the State of Georgia. This notable accomplishment was commemorated during a formal chartering ceremony, underscoring the church’s commitment to leadership and service within the community.
The event was led by Central Georgia Lay Leader Mrs. Shirlyn Johnson-Granville, alongside Lay President Mr. Eugene Felton and Pastor Raymond Hampton. Their leadership and guidance played a pivotal role in the successful chartering of the Lay Ministry at the church.
During the ceremony, the church’s dedication to the lay ministry was further demonstrated as Mrs. Julia Tookes was officially confirmed as Lay Ministry President. Additionally, Betty Bailey was confirmed as Vice President, and Laronda Palmer as Secretary. The installation of these officers signifies a new chapter for the church’s Lay Ministry, setting a strong foundation for continued growth and service.
