THE LIFE-CHANGING WORK OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD Romans 8:1-13

Our spiritual lives and the life of the church are God’s work from beginning to end. Romans 7:4-6

The Spirit of life has set you free from slavery to sin and death. Romans 8:1-4; Ephesians 2:1-5; Romans 1:16-17; 3:21-24; 5:6-11; 6:23; Ezekiel 36:25-27

The character and actions of your life are shaped by that upon which your mind is set. Romans 8:5-7; Galatians 5:16-26

Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ. Romans 8:8-11

If you belong to Christ, by the power of the Spirit you are obligated to live for Christ. Romans 8:12-13; Colossians 3: 5-17

What is the driving force of your life? Self or Christ?

What is the evidence for the driving force in your life?

Examine you heart as we come to the Lord’ s table this morning.

Peacemakers

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

What is peace? Romans 1:5; Ephesians 2:13-22; Philippians 4:6-7

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful. (John 14:27

God is the peacemaker! Colossians 1:14-20

We are called to be peacemakers II Corinthians 5:18-19; Matthew 5:43-48; I Peter 3:14-17

Peace without compromise of purity before God Romans 12:16-18 ; Hebrews 12:14-15; Romans 14:19

James 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.

Hebrews 13:20-2120 Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep—through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 equip you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

It is Saturday night: a great time to begin preparing your heart of the gathering of God's people in worship tomorrow morning!

THE PURE IN HEART
Matthew 5:8

David: a man after God’s own heart. I Samuel 13:13-14; 16:7

God is looking for pure hearts II Chronicles 14:11-12; 15:1-2; 16:7-9

The lack of a pure heart sidelines one’s relationship with God and with God’s people. James 4:1-12

Only Jesus Christ can give you a pure heart I Corinthians 1:27-31

Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”? Proverbs 20:9 (ESV)

Can a person be restored to purity after he or she has sinned against God?
II Samuel 12:13-14; Psalm 51; I John 1:5-10

• What does God see when he looks into your heart?

• When you face threats or seasons of confusion as to how you should react, who determines your first response?

A pure heart can only be kept pure as you keep your eyes upon Jesus! Hebrews 12:1-3
