Prayer Focus
Discernment
Scripture: Philippians 1:9-10
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,"
Prayer:
Ask God for discernment in evaluating candidates.
The scripture passage in Philippians was written by the Apostle Paul while in a prison cell.
Paul's prayer for the church of Philippi is the same for us today!
He desires for us to be in the knowledge of God's grace through Jesus Christ and be constantly seeking the wisdom and insight of God to make the best decisions.
But where do we find wisdom? Insight? Knowledge?
God's Word = the Bible.
Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
Proverbs 30:5: "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him."
Prayer = conversations with God.
When we know the heart of God, as he proves throughout the Bible, we know the good that he has planned for us, and we can better discern what is good in the life of our church body and for ourselves.
Try reading over the scripture passage this week. Even the whole chapter 1 of Philippians.
Pray for discernment and wisdom that His desires for Cultivate Community Church become our clear desires. And that those evaluating candidates can have clear discernment over which ones to advance, release, or wait for more.
AND as the Hymn sings,
"Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one"
