The crowd in Luke 7:24-35 had a front row seat to see what God was doing. They heard John preach. They watched Jesus move. They saw lives change. Yet many still stayed on the sidelines criticizing instead of responding.

Jesus wasn’t looking for spectators. He was calling followers.

Faith was never meant to be something we watch from a distance. Jesus invites us to step in, trust Him, follow Him, and let our lives be changed by Him. Don’t just observe what God is doing—join Him in it.

You’re invited to join Him in it at Monaz! Sundays at 10:30am!

In Luke 7:24-35, Jesus challenges the crowd to stop being spectators and really examine their hearts. John the Baptist wasn’t chasing comfort, popularity, or performance — he was fully surrendered to God’s calling.

Jesus points out that many people wanted God on their own terms. They criticized John for being too intense and Jesus for being too welcoming. The issue wasn’t the messenger — it was their hearts.

If you heard Sunday’s message you know that pastor Mike mentioned an old Ford truck that had the nickname “uncle Jimmy”. You wouldn’t know by looking at the outside appearance of it, but it had an engine under the hood that would turn heads when it started up. The outer appearance of this truck left others surprised to see what was under the hood.

Sometimes we need to “check under the hood” of our faith.
Are we following Jesus because He is Lord, or because He fits our preferences?
Are we pursuing transformation, or just consuming church content to look a certain way?
Are we obedient when it’s uncomfortable, or only when it’s convenient?

Following Jesus is more than appearances. Eventually what’s under the hood will show in the way we live, love, serve, and trust Him.

In case you missed it on Sunday:

Andrew and Sedona shared that they will be moving away. While we will miss them deeply here at Monaz, we are also celebrating with them as they step into finding their forever home. Though they may no longer be physically with us each week, they will always be part of the Monaz family.

With Andrew and Sedona stepping away, there is now a need for worship leadership, and we are excited to share that DJ Linhart has stepped into that role. Not only has DJ said yes to leading worship, but he has also said yes to the call God has placed on his life. On Sunday, he was presented with his local minister’s license and will begin his journey toward becoming an ordained pastor.

Please join us in praying for Andrew, Sedona, DJ, Emily, and their families as they walk through this new season and transition.

We went deep into the scripture, Luke 7: 24-35, this Sunday and looked at what made John great, but what made the least in the kingdom even great than John….

John was great because he faithfully pointed people to Jesus.
But the “least in the Kingdom” is greater because we live on the other side of the cross with access to the Holy Spirit.

John prepared the way for Jesus.
We now proclaim the finished work of Jesus.

What a privilege. What a responsibility.
