Prior to our weekly prayers this Sunday, Lucy read this missive by United Methodist Bishops, lamenting the new war in the Mideast.
Blessed indeed are the peacemakers!

We know that our hearts are heavy as we witness the mounting loss of life from the ongoing military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel, and from retaliatory strikes by Iran. Families are grieving the loss of loved ones, and entire communities are shaken by the weight of uncertai...

Lovely image by Korean artist Woonbo kim ki chang.
It’s so human to recreate the nativity with characters who look like us: we attempt to balance the concept of Emanuel - our God walking among us - with the vastness of a God who is so much more than we can possibly understand.
Let us remember that the Christ belongs to all of us.

Christ the King Sunday was declared a feast day just 100 years ago - a reminder that religion is not static! This lovely icon is a welcome counterpoint to the image of pale Jesus with flowing light brown hair, gold crown, and kingly raiment. Pastor Jon’s sermon reminded us that Jesus was in the streets with the people, not on a throne on high.

John Wesley could have stopped after the first six words — Do all the good you can — but we’re glad he didn’t.

On this July 4, we pray that all are safe and that our beautiful area experiences no fires. We are grateful for our freedom to worship -- or not -- in the way that our conscience leads us. And we note that national boundaries and patriotism are human, not of God's realm. We strive to seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

On day 3 of Annual Conference, it was moving to hear from Allen Buck about the work of the Circle of Indigenous Ministries and to be witness to the drum circle. It was noted that drums can only tell the truth! Another speaker, Ken, shared that the Declaration of Independence includes reference to "merciless Indian savages."
We have much work to do on learning, repentance, repair and reconciliation.

At the Laity meeting at conference, we were reminded to Listen Through Love, and to heed Matt 22:37-39 "Love the Lord Your God... and love your neighbor as yourself" and the descriptions of Love in 1Cor 13:4-7. Yep -- Listening through Love definitely requires patience and kindness!
