🚨 NOT EVERYTHING THAT DEMANDS YOUR ATTENTION DESERVES YOUR ATTENTION. 🚨

Your phone says, “Come down.”
Busyness says, “Come down.”
Criticism says, “Come down.”
Fear says, “Come down.”
Someone else’s opinion says, “Come down.”

The enemy doesn’t always have to destroy what God is doing in your life… Sometimes he just has to DISTRACT you from it.

That’s exactly what happens in Nehemiah 6.
The wall is almost finished.
The enemy has tried ridicule.
Threats.
Discouragement.
Internal division.
None of it worked.

So now they try something different: Get Nehemiah to come down from the wall. But Nehemiah has an answer:

“I AM DOING A GREAT WORK, AND I CANNOT COME DOWN.”
— Nehemiah 6:3

This Sunday morning, we continue our series:
REBUILDING FOR GOD’S GLORY
with a message from Nehemiah 6:1–19 entitled:
I AM DOING A GREAT WORK

And maybe the question some of us need to ask is:
What keeps pulling ME down from my place on the wall?

Maybe God has called you to build your marriage…but you’re distracted.

Maybe God has called you to disciple your children…but you’re distracted.

Maybe God has called you to serve…but you’re distracted.

Maybe God has called you to deepen your walk with Christ… but you’re distracted.

Maybe you’ve allowed criticism, fear, temptation, busyness, or someone else’s opinion to pull you away from what matters most.

This Sunday, Nehemiah is going to remind us:
👉 Fight distraction.
👉 Forsake the fear of false accusations.
👉 Follow God—not fake counsel.
👉 Finish the work.

Because faithfulness sometimes means saying NO to what is calling you down so you can keep saying YES to what God has called you to do.

And ultimately, Nehemiah points us to someone greater.
Centuries later, Jesus was doing a great work too.
As He hung on the cross, they mocked Him:
“If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

But…
HE DIDN’T COME DOWN.
Not because the nails could hold Him there.
Love held Him there.
He stayed because our sin had to be paid for.
He stayed because sinners needed to be saved.

Jesus didn’t come down until He could say:“IT IS FINISHED.”

So this Sunday…Christian, maybe it’s time to get back on the wall.
And if you’ve never trusted Christ, maybe it’s time to come to Jesus.

David wanted to build God a house.

But God had something much greater in mind.

In 2 Samuel 7:1–17, God made one of the most important promises in the entire Old Testament. He promised David a royal house, a kingdom, a Son—and a throne that would be established forever.

This promise, known as the Davidic Covenant, stretches far beyond David and Solomon. It points directly to Jesus Christ, the Son of David and the eternal King.

Solomon would build the temple, but Solomon would die. Kings would rise and fall. Jerusalem would be destroyed. Israel would go into exile. For centuries, David's throne appeared empty.

But God had not forgotten His promise.

When Jesus came, the promised King had arrived.

He was born in David's city.
He was called the Son of David.
He announced God's kingdom.
He was crowned through a cross.
He rose from the grave.
And He reigns forever.

Every earthly throne will eventually be empty.

But the throne of Jesus will stand forever.

In this message from our Jesus Before Bethlehem series, we will see how God's covenant with David points forward to Jesus Christ and why the reign of our eternal King gives believers unshakable hope.

👑 EVERY EARTHLY THRONE EVENTUALLY BECOMES EMPTY.

Kings die.
Kingdoms fall.
Empires disappear.
Power changes hands.

But thousands of years ago, God made a promise to David:
“Your throne shall be established forever.” — 2 Samuel 7:16

How could that possibly be true?
David died.
Solomon died.
The kingdom divided.
Jerusalem fell.
Eventually, there wasn’t even a descendant of David sitting on the throne.

Had God’s promise failed?
Not even close.
Because God was pointing forward to a King greater than David.
A Kingdom greater than Israel.
And a throne that would never be empty.

JESUS CHRIST — THE SON OF DAVID.
This Wednesday night, we continue our series:
JESUS BEFORE BETHLEHEM
with: THE THRONE FOREVER
📖 2 Samuel 7:1–17

God promised David:
A son would come.
A kingdom would be established.
And his throne would endure FOREVER.
Centuries later, an angel appeared to a young woman named Mary and announced:

“The Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David… and of his kingdom there will be no end.” — Luke 1:32–33

There it is.
Jesus is the promised King.
David’s throne pointed to His throne.
David’s kingdom pointed to His Kingdom.
And unlike every earthly king who came before Him…
JESUS WILL NEVER SURRENDER THE THRONE.

He reigns today.
He will reign tomorrow.
And He will reign forever.
So when the world feels uncertain…
When governments change…
When nations shake…
When it seems like everything around us is unstable…

OUR KING IS STILL ON THE THRONE. 👑

🚨 WHAT IF THE GREATEST THREAT ISN’T OUTSIDE THE WALLS? 🚨

For weeks, Nehemiah and the people had been watching the enemy.

Sanballat was outside.
Tobiah was outside.
The threats were outside.
The opposition was outside.

And the people were ready.
They prayed.
They posted guards.
They carried their swords.
They kept building.

But then something happened that they weren’t expecting…
The enemy outside the walls couldn’t stop the work—
but sin INSIDE the walls threatened to tear everything apart.

This Sunday morning, we continue our journey through Nehemiah in REBUILDING FOR GOD’S GLORY with a message from Nehemiah 5:1–19 entitled:

🔥 THE SIN INSIDE THE WALLS 🔥

It’s easy for Christians to look around and talk about everything wrong with the world.

We can point at the culture.
Politics.
Schools.
Social media.
Declining morality.
Hostility toward Christianity.

And some of those concerns are very real.

But what if we’ve been so busy looking over the wall that we’ve forgotten to look in the mirror?

Before asking:
“What’s wrong with our country?”
Maybe we need to ask:
👉 “Lord, what’s wrong with ME?”

Is there bitterness I’ve allowed to remain?
Pride?
Gossip?
Greed?
Unforgiveness?
Hypocrisy?
A broken relationship I refuse to address?
Someone I’ve hurt but refuse to apologize to?
Sin I’ve learned to excuse instead of confess?

Because sometimes the greatest threat to God’s work isn’t the enemy attacking from the outside.
Sometimes it’s the sin we tolerate on the inside.
And here’s the good news:
We need someone greater than Nehemiah.
WE NEED JESUS.

Nehemiah could expose sin.
Nehemiah could confront sin.
Nehemiah could demand restitution.
But Nehemiah could never change the human heart.
Jesus can. ❤️

He paid the debt we could never pay.
He died the death we deserved.
He rose from the grave.
And He can forgive our sin and give us a new heart.

What does the story of Ruth have to do with Jesus Christ?

Ruth begins with famine, death, grief, and emptiness. Naomi believes she has lost everything. Ruth is a poor, widowed foreigner with no inheritance and seemingly no future.

But God is working—even when they cannot see Him.

Through ordinary circumstances, God providentially leads Ruth to the field of Boaz, a man who is qualified, able, and willing to become her redeemer.

And Boaz points us toward someone greater.

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer.

Like Ruth, we could not rescue ourselves. But Jesus came near to us, willingly paid the price for our redemption with His own blood, and brings everyone who trusts Him into the family of God.

Ruth's story reminds us that grace is at work even when we cannot see it.

You cannot redeem yourself—but Jesus has paid the price to bring you home.
