SAINTS CYRIL & METHODIUS — The Greek Brothers Who Enlightened the Slavs

Born in Thessalonica, Greece, these two brilliant brothers changed the course of history for millions of people across Eastern Europe and beyond.

Cyril (born Constantine, known as “the Philosopher”) — scholar, theologian, Librarian at the great Hagia Sophia in Constantinople

Methodius — soldier turned monk, steadfast and fearless.

Sent as missionaries by the Byzantine Emperor, these Greek saints did something extraordinary: they created an entire alphabet for the Slavic peoples so that the Gospel and the divine services could be heard in their own tongue. Every letter of the Cyrillic script — used today by hundreds of millions across Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, and beyond — traces back to the genius of these two Greeks from Thessaloniki.
They translated the Holy Scriptures and liturgical books from Greek into Slavonic. They traveled through Moravia and the Balkans, endured persecution from jealous Germanic bishops, imprisonment, and slander — and never stopped.
Pope Adrian II himself received their Slavonic translations with love and full approval.

St. Cyril fell asleep in the Lord in Rome on February 14, 869.

St. Methodius reposed as Archbishop of Moravia on April 6, 885.

Christ is risen!

What a blessed Sunday! Today we welcomed 4 new catechumens into the life of the Church, taking their first steps on the journey toward Holy Orthodoxy.

We also celebrated the beautiful 40-day blessing of our newest little parishioner and her mother, welcoming them both back into the life of the Church.

Glory to God for all things!
