On Thursday, September 17th, the Director of the Texas State Veterans Homes, CSM Bobby Breeden, visited the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.

He was hosted by the On-Site Representative, George Rice. When asked for his impressions following the visit, Bobby replied:

"Visiting the RGVSVC and viewing the headstones and markers of the Veterans filled me with a sense of pride.

Being among those that represent the ideals we live by today reminds me of how many sacrifices were made and continue to be made to grant us the freedom and peace we live in today.

It is humbling to witness the honor that the State of Texas provides to ensure that the legacies of our Veterans live on forever."

The Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery hosted the Carry the Load Patriots Day event last weekend.

We were one of over 40 state and national Veteran cemeteries that participated in this NCA‑sanctioned event.

We had approximately 125 individuals registered and about 90 in attendance, including several local military units, the Hidalgo County VSO, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

Volunteers washed roughly 4,000 headstones and collected about 85 bags of weeds.

Thank you to all the volunteers and cemetery staff who came out on Saturday to help and support this event.

In honor of Independence Day and, in particular, for the 250th anniversary of our independence, our cemetery's front gates are lit up red, white, and blue. 🇺🇸

These patriotic lights are meant to honor all citizens, especially our Veterans and their families, without whom we would not have the freedom that we enjoy today.
