"Maybe the old Christian cliche is true: we need to redeem the time - or at least our thinking about time. We need to see the time we have as a gift from God and we need to use that time for His glory and His purposes. So how do we glorify and honor God with our time?

This may surprise you but I don’t think it starts with specific action steps, like deleting certain apps or finding the right time management system. Those aren’t bad ideas, but glorifying God with our time starts with having a biblical perspective of time (our first two points) and then seeing some biblical principles for how ought to use the time we have. From there, you can figure out what belongs, what doesn’t, and how to manage it all."

Your Job Isn't Random. It's Sacred. 🛠️

"Whatever you do" — Colossians 3:23. Unless your work is blatantly sinful, your work is sacred. It's not just about the end product either — when I work, I'm imaging a God who works. Jesus said, "My Father is working until now, and I'm joining Him in His work." This goes back to Genesis 1. We were created to work, to be productive, to care for our families through it.

For anyone trying to figure out their calling — it's simpler than you think. Pray about it. Ask people who know you well. Consider what you enjoy and what God has gifted you to do. Your calling sits at the intersection of what God has commanded you to do and what He's wired you to do.

Colossians 3:23 — "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."

Working Hard Is a Gospel Issue ✝

When we're lazy at work, we're not just being unproductive — we're stealing from our employers, and sometimes from our own families. Colossians 3:23 says we work heartily as for the Lord, not for men. Christ Himself was never slack in His work — His true food was to accomplish the Father's will. When I work with diligence and integrity, I bear witness to the gospel I'm proclaiming.

Colossians 3:23-24 — "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

"Work is good, we image God as workers, and we work six days, keeping the seventh for worship and for rest. Finally (under this brief theology of work), as Christians we understand that the Genesis 3 curse is being undone by the work of Christ, who bore the ultimate curse of our sin on the cross, which is death, and undoes it through His resurrection. What that means for work is that while it is still difficult, and while it still produces thorns and weeds, it is not in vain, and God is using it to accomplish His good purposes.

With that theology of work in mind, how do we exhibit God-glorifying, everyday faithfulness in our work? I think we can get to the bottom of this by considering why we work, how we work, and what we do for work."

"We worked hard for it. We earned it. We deserve it."

That's how we naturally think about money. And it's the exact opposite of what Scripture says. 👀

David gathered all the gold, silver, bronze, and wood to build the temple — and then he prayed over all of it in front of all of Israel. And here's what he said:

"All things come from you, and of your own have we given you." — 1 Chronicles 29:14

Did you catch that? Even the offering they brought to God — came from God. 😳

That has to be our attitude toward every dollar we have.

It's not ours. It never was. God entrusts us with His money — for the provision of our needs, to manage it well, and to be generous with others.

That's exactly what Jesus is saying in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. A talent isn't a God-given ability — it's a sum of money. And the point is this: how we steward what God has given us is directly tied to our knowledge of Him and our faithfulness to Him.

Glorifying God with your money starts with one simple recognition — it's all His to begin with. 🙏

You cannot be a good steward of what God has given you without a budget. Full stop. 💰

"The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty." — Proverbs 21:5

Early in our marriage, we were in seminary, barely making it — and spending more than we had. We went to a financial consultant at our church and the first thing he asked was, "You got a budget?"

We made one. And the gut punch? Exactly 10% of our income was going to minimum payments on credit cards.

There was our tithe. 😳

It took diligence. Tough decisions. Time. But we got out of it — and it started with a budget.

Make a budget. Use it. And get out of debt if you can. Avoid it like the plague.

Buying stuff you don't need with money you don't have brings no glory to God. 🙏

"It’s not inherently sinful to be wealthy, nor is it inherently righteous to be poor. In fact, what we see throughout the Scriptures is that both wealth and poverty carry their own unique temptations to sin and opportunities for faithfulness."

Disciplining your kids is a lot like tending a garden. 🌱

A beautiful, fruit-producing garden doesn't happen overnight. It takes hard work, paying attention, pruning, weeding — over a long period of time. Same with your kids.

You don't get respectful, self-controlled, God-loving children overnight. It's a long process of nourishing them with what is good and true, showing them the affection of Christ, and weeding out what is sinful through correction and consequences. 🙏

"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." — Hebrews 12:11

If you don't discipline them now — there will be no peace later. But if you will discipline them now, trusting the Lord and doing it well — the promise is the peaceful fruit of righteousness. 🤍

That promise is worth the hard work.
