✨ Introduction Friday ✨

Meet Ed Mazur!

Ed has been part of the St. Matthias family since 1977, when he and his late wife Carol moved to Richmond from New England. Invited by neighbors to visit St. Matthias, they immediately found the parish “exceedingly welcoming” — and the rest is history.

Originally from Connecticut, Ed grew up in a Lutheran church founded by Swedish and Finnish immigrants, where his love of church community and choir music first began. Today, he still enjoys singing in the choir, especially during Christmas Eve services when “Silent Night” brings back cherished childhood memories.

One of Ed’s favorite St. Matthias memories was helping with the early church BBQ pig roasts — an experience that, in his words, helped him officially “become a Virginian.”

Ed treasures the warmth, care, and spiritual life of St. Matthias, and we are grateful for the wisdom, kindness, and history he brings to our parish family.

✝️ This Sunday at St. Matthias ✝️

Sunday, May 31, we celebrate Trinity Sunday with Holy Eucharist at 8:30 & 10:30 a.m.

As we enter the long season after Pentecost, our summer worship will include prayers from Enriching Our Worship, offering beautiful and expansive language inspired by scripture.

Summer is also a wonderful time for youth and children to get involved! We invite young people to serve as lectors, ushers, greeters, and acolytes during Sunday services.

Interested in volunteering this summer? We’d love to have you participate!
(Youth will qualify for volunteer hours)

✨ Introduction Friday ✨

Meet Jeff Burke, our Senior Warden at St. Matthias!

Jeff grew up in Springfield, Virginia, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where his family was deeply involved in church life. Some of his favorite memories include singing in the youth choir, serving as an acolyte, and the strong sense of community his church family provided.

Jeff and his wife Robin joined St. Matthias in 1992, and he continues to love the diversity of our parish, the outreach ministries, and singing in the choir. Some of his most meaningful moments at St. Matthias have been the confirmations of his sons and the baptism of his grandson, Wilson.

We are grateful for Jeff’s leadership, service, and dedication to our parish family! 💙

We are excited to announce the formation of our LGBTQ+ Committee as part of our commitment to living out our Baptismal Covenant—to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves, and striving for justice, peace, and respect for the dignity of every human being.
This team will help to foster a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive church community where all people know they are loved, seen, and accepted.
We invite anyone who would like to learn more, support this ministry, or help shape this committee to join us in this important work.
