One of the things I've been pondering lately is this:

Jesus certainly talked about heaven and eternal life, but He seemed to spend far more time talking about how we treat people here and now—feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, welcoming the stranger, and loving our neighbors.

What if faith is not just about securing a future address, but also about learning to live God's way today?

That's the question I explore in this week's Ways of Grace article. One of the reasons we started our Substack was to have a place where we could go deeper into these kinds of thoughts than a Facebook status update allows.

If that question resonates with you, I'd love for you to give it a read.

You'll find the link in the first comment.

Pruning. Sometimes it's unpleasant, sometimes it's a chore. But it's necessary. That's the topic of our discussion tomorrow. Join us in the sanctuary, or, if you're not local, live on YouTube tomorrow at 10am.

It’s a big weekend in Metamora as the annual Strawberry Days Festival fills the village with food, friends, live music, and classic small-town charm.

Stroll through one of Indiana’s most historic destinations, visit the iconic Metamora Grist Mill and take home fresh-ground cornmeal made right on site. Wander along the canal and soak in the living history, or enjoy a peaceful walk on the Whitewater Canal Trail where nature and heritage meet.

It’s a full weekend celebration—Saturday and Sunday all day long—and we’ll still gather for service as usual at 10AM Sunday morning. Whether you’re a local neighbor or just visiting for the festival, you’re welcome here.

Come for the strawberries, stay for the community.

This year, there'll be a blood drive at Batesville Area Inclusion & Diversity Batesville Pride. We'll be there supporting our brothers and sisters, because love wins. Come join us!

Part of inclusion is making sure that everyone can contribute to their community in their own capacity.

Until 2023, gay and bisexual men were barred from donating blood unless they were celibate. This started in the 1980s during the AIDs epidemic, with a lifetime ban even after HIV testing became available in 1985.

After decades of advocacy, in 2015 the FDA switched to a deferral period - donation was only allowed after 12 months of celibacy. This shifted to 3 months during the 2020 blood shortage caused by Covid-19.

Finally in 2023, the ban and referrals were lifted and moved to a risk-based assessment that is gender-inclusive and based on individual behaviors.

To acknowledge this, and in the spirit of giving back to community, we are having our FIRST EVER BAID blood drive during Pride!

To register and see if you qualify (some health limitations exist) follow this link https://hoxworth.org/groups/baid

We cannot wait to see you there!

Pastor Rick here. Monday is the day we publish our longer articles on Substack, and today's was inspired my my wife, Holly. She knows much more about gardening than I do, and today's article is about pruning. We hope you'll take a few moments and read it!

Friends, if you're not local, we'll be streaming our discussion this morning (like we do every week) on YouTube and you are invited to join us! Please feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel, too, so you won't miss out on any impromptu lives we might do!

Leave it to the Pastor? We are ALL ministers. Join us as we discuss how we all can serve.

It's not a sin to ask questions. It's not weakness, it's not doubt....it's part of the search for truth.

Did you realize you preach a sermon every day… in the things you do?

Not just with words.
But with actions.

The way you treat people.
The way you respond to stress.
The small acts of kindness no one else may even notice.

It all says something.

That’s what we’ll be talking about this Sunday at Ways of Grace — 10:00 AM.

Because maybe the most powerful sermons aren’t spoken from a pulpit…

They’re lived out in ordinary moments.
