Help Us Keep Our Children Safe!

Interested in volunteering with children or youth at St. James? Whether you’re a catechist, classroom aide, substitute, retreat volunteer, or simply want to be prepared to serve our young people, Safe Environment Training is an important part of volunteering at our parish.

All adults 18 and older who work or volunteer with young people are required to complete this training through the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

The initial training is completed in person and is valid for five years. Renewal training can be completed online.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Monica, a woman of deep faith, patient perseverance, and unwavering prayer.

Born in 331 in what is now Algeria, St. Monica was the mother of three children, including St. Augustine. Throughout her life, she prayed faithfully for her family and sought to lead them closer to God through her example, her words, and her trust in the Lord.

Monica’s greatest trial was the long journey of her son Augustine. For years, she prayed and shed tears for his conversion, never giving up hope. Her prayers were eventually answered when she had the joy of witnessing Augustine’s baptism by St. Ambrose in Milan in 387.

St. Monica is the patron saint of married women, difficult marriages, disappointing children, and the conversion of family members. Her life reminds us that God hears our prayers, even when the answers do not come quickly or in the way we expect.

St. Monica encourages us to never stop praying, never lose hope, and always trust in God’s timing.

St. Monica, pray for us—and for all those we carry in our hearts and prayers! 🙏

Relying on God’s unfailing promise, we pray for the Church and for the world.

That Church leaders and faithful believers practice charity and patience with one another, let us pray to the Lord…

That leaders resist temptation and root out corruption, let us pray to the Lord…

That those separated by death from those they love take comfort in the promise of the resurrection, let us pray to the Lord…

That all gathered here might extend compassion to those who feel hopeless, let us pray to the Lord…

For all those inscribed in our Book of Life, let us pray to the Lord…

Loving God, you call us to yourself and shower us with blessings. Give us courage when we are fearful, hope when we are isolated, and love when we are lonely. Hear the prayers we lift up today and answer them according to your will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

The Sacred Heart of Jesus: A Pilgrim Icon

We are blessed to welcome the Knights of Columbus Pilgrim Icon to St. James. This year’s icon depicts the famous image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, painted in 1767 by Pompeo Batoni and now venerated in the Church of the Gesù in Rome.

The reproduction bears the blessing of Pope Francis, through the Papal Almoner, and is one of more than 300 Pilgrim Icons traveling throughout the world for veneration and prayer.

August 22 & 23 — The icon will be on display in church for veneration.
August 25 — The icon will be present during Adoration.
5:00 PM on August 25 — Deacon Lance will lead a short devotion in the Historic Chapel.

We invite you to spend some quiet time in prayer before the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and reflect on His love, mercy, and call to draw closer to Him.
