Thank You for a Great
Corn Roast

To everyone who came out to participate in the Corn Roast this year - THANK YOU. This event only happens because of the fellowship and cooperation of many people. Whether you came to help prepare the food or enjoy the food, I think we would all agree it was a wonderful time.

The Corn Roast committee extends a GIANT Thank You to everyone who helped make the Corn Roast a fun-filled evening. We appreciate our long-time and new volunteers.

Hope to see everyone next year on August 14.

School Supply Drive Thank You

Thank you, Good Shepherd, for making the annual
School Supply Drive a big success!

Every year, because of your generosity, we donate
supplies to help children start the school year off
with the tools they need for success. This year
(as requested) we added headphones and
watercolor paints to our item list, and the response
from you was wonderful. The supplies were
delivered to Menomonee Falls Food Pantry,
Boys and Girls Club in West Bend (to help
benefit Casa Guadalupe), St. Michael in
Milwaukee, and The Cathedral Center in
Milwaukee.

Think of all the children who will benefit from
these supplies and please keep them in
your prayers as they start the school year.

My Soul Is Thirsting for You, O Lord, My God

Jeremiah never wanted to be a prophet. In his
suffering and anguish he wanted to abandon his
prophetic call. But God’s Word was like a fire burning
in his heart, compelled to speak God’s Word. The
verses from Psalm 63 form a bridge between the first
reading and the gospel. The thirst for God is a
yearning to return to the intimacy, once experienced, leaves one wishing for more. Just as we need water to live, our longing for God is innate. In praying this psalm, think about your love for God and how to live out that love. Renew your commitment to some part of your practice of the faith, remembering that discipleship is costly and an act of the whole self. In thirsting for God we taste the greater Life promised us.

O God, you are my God whom I crave;
my soul thirsts for you, my body aches for you
like a dry and weary land.

Let me gaze on you in your temple; a vision of strength and glory.
Your love is better than life, my speech is full of praise.

I give you a lifetime of worship, my hands raised in your name.
I feast at a rich table, my lips sing of your glory.

You have been my help, I rejoice beneath your wings.
Yes, I cling to you, your right hand upholds me fast.

Season of Creation Mass Tomorrow Morning
Tuesday September 1

Join us as we kick off the “Season of Creation” (Sep 1-Oct 4) with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation this Tuesday with Mass at 8:30 AM in the church.

The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home. It culminates on October 4 with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

May those who guide our Church be like Peter, open to the ways of Christ, but also aware and admitting that there is always room for improvement. For the Church, we pray.

Jesus reminded Peter, and reminds all of us, that to follow Him we have to make sacrifices. May world leaders be more concerned about what is right and just versus what is easy and politically expedient. For peace among nations, we pray.

Jeremiah reminds us that when we see violence and outrage we must speak up. We pray for courageous modern day prophets who advocate for the common good. For dignity and respect for all, we pray.

Today’s readings associate suffering with closeness to Christ. May the sick and suffering in our community find their time of trial a time to renew and grow their faith. For the sick, we pray.

We pray for those who have recently died, especially Dennis Sullivan. We pray also for all those who grieve. We offer special intention for Frank Russo and Kevin Michaels. May these, and all the faithful departed, including those whose names are on our Memorial Board, be in the presence of God forever. We pray.
