We need YOU to help Unload Pumpkins
September 26 and October 10
Find your Pumpkin Patch shirt, invite a friend, and be a part of the fun when we unload a tractor trailer full of pumpkins and transform our front lawn into a pumpkin paradise. Whether you can lift the biggest pumpkins or just the tiniest ones EVERYONE is invited to participate. Pumpkin unloading days aren’t just for work, they are a day to celebrate the power of the church working together. Invite
a friend and visit www.2ndmemphis.org/pumpkin-patch for all the links.

Pumpkin Patch Opens September 26
Every fall God invites our church to reflect the welcome, love, kindness, and generosity of Christ to thousands of Pumpkin Patch guests. Most people may never visit or join our church, however, as the adage says, “you may be the only Bible someone ever reads.”
Through our intentionality and commitment to Christian hospitality, our Pumpkin Patch becomes a holy place where kindness flows and glimpses of the kingdom of God abound. Guests arrive to purchase pumpkins but depart receiving so much more. So, let the excitement begin and be sure to find your happy place in the Second Baptist Pumpkin Patch! If you’re new to Second and want to learn more about the Pumpkin Patch and how to get involved, contact Daniel Johnson.

Brick by Brick and Next Steps in Our Youth Ministry

Through the summer, youth and their parents have engaged in some rich and deeply meaningful times together on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. From special “Sunday Funday” games and activities, to thought-provoking and insightful discussions about faith and how we are being formed, our group has grown closer and stronger over these months where we have used these verses from Ephesians 2 (The Message) as our guide:

That’s plain enough, isn’t it? You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.

While all of this is happening, our personnel committee has posted the part-time
Youth Ministry Coordinator position and we are making contacts through various
ministry partner networks around the area about candidates for consideration.

Please continue to pray for our youth, their families, and our church’s intergenerational ministries as we keep growing in faith together.

South Africa Mission Experience
July 8-19, 2027

Interest and Info Meeting
Wednesday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m.

One of the powerful ways Jesus taught and spiritually prepared his followers was by sending them out to meet their neighbors and share the good news. What Jesus knew then – and what is still true now – is that spiritual strength is gained when we are put in uncertain and sometimes uncomfortable situations where we must rely on God. In those experiences, we often seek God more intensely, see God more clearly, and discover a spiritual strength within us of which we were unaware. Today, Jesus still sends followers and at Second Baptist one of the ways is through our South Africa Mission Experiences.

In 2027, we will once again travel to South Africa to serve with our ministry partners. This experience is open to people of all ages, interests, and skills. If you are interested in learning, serving, and growing, and would like to learn more about the experience or our South Africa ministry partners, please attend our interest and informational meeting. Attendance is not a commitment to participate.

The Journey Class (room 220) – Jacqueline Martin, teacher
During August, the Journey Class will share studies in James and Job. How does faith work in everyday life? How does faith stand in adversity? The New Testament epistle of James connects with the Old Testament story of Job through a dozen allusions or references that James makes to verses in Job.
