This Sunday at McPherson First we continue The Gospel on Stage and Screen with "Faithful When No One's Watching." Jesus tells of a master who hands his servants enormous sums and then leaves, for a long time, with no supervision. Two go to work. One digs a hole. It's a parable about the long stretches when nobody is checking, and Toy Story has been telling that same story for thirty years: the toys come alive when the child leaves the room. Toy Story 5 is in theaters now.

And this is your last chance to catch W***y Wonka on stage at the McPherson Opera House, final performances this weekend (Fri and Sat at 7:30 PM, Sun at 2:00 PM). Tickets start at $13: mcphersonoperahouse.org/event/willywonka.

The second floor hallway is looking like itself again, and the new heating and cooling system is coming to life. This week crews started up and balanced the system, set the last fan coil units, and returned ceiling tile across the building. We are in the final stretch, with finish work and one last crane visit ahead before mid-July closeout. Thank you to the 113 households whose generosity is making this possible.

This Sunday we open a new series: The Gospel on Stage and Screen, Stories That Find Us. Four weeks pairing the summer's biggest movies and the McPherson Community Theatre stage with the parables that have been telling these same stories all along.

Week one: Grace That Seems Unfair. A landowner pays a full day's wage to workers who showed up at the last hour, and right down the road, the poorest boy in town finds the last golden ticket hidden inside an ordinary chocolate bar, something he could never have earned. The math doesn't work in either story. That's the point.

W***y Wonka is on stage at the McPherson Opera House this weekend (opening tonight at 7:30 PM, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM) and again June 26-28. Tickets start at just $13 for the balcony, with discounts for students, seniors, military, and groups of 10 or more: mcphersonoperahouse.org/event/willywonka. Cool air is arriving! Chill water is now reaching the Serve Center, and the air handler serving Hess Hall is connected and sending cool air into the hall. All of the equipment is on site, new fan coil units and piping are in place, and ceiling grid is going back up across the building. The finish line is finally in view. Thank you to the 113 households whose generosity is making this possible.
