FAMILY LENT BINGO!
The liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 5 and goes 40 days until Holy Saturday, the night before Easter. The 40 days places us in the story of God’s people throughout history. God flooded the earth for 40 days, Moses spent 40 days on Mount Sinai with God.
The Israelites wandered through the desert for 40 days. Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness for 40 days. Forty days symbolizes God's transformative work in drawing his people closer to himself and to his heart and showing them what was next.
As we enter into Lent, we are invited to move closer to Christ, to adopt his ways, and to share in his power in overcoming the ways of the world through the three pillars of Lent.
• Prayer—We reach out to God.
• Almsgiving—We move toward others.
• Fasting—We see just how much we hunger for things and food, and we open space to hunger for God and his justice in the world.
This Lenten guide, in the form of a Bingo board, offers ideas for your family to connect with Christ from each of the three pillars of Lent—prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. Let kids pick!
Throughout this season, try to get Bingo—four corners, blackout, or regular Bingo. For each one earned, celebrate with a fun family outing or a special treat.
