UUFMer Christy Scattarella, who launched “An Optimist’s Guide to Alzheimer’s” talk at UUFM last September, has a TEDx talk! Christy was invited to present “Alzheimer’s: A Doorway, Not a Dead End”, at the Chicago TEDx Lake Shore Drive event in late January. (Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meGp1hEdTEg) Christy and husband, fellow UUFMer Ken Moore, just returned from Washington, DC where they joined over 1,000 other advocates at the annual Alzheimer’s Impact Movement Forum to lobby for the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention Act (i.e. ASAP). The Act would allow Medicare to cover a groundbreaking blood test that can detect Alzheimer’s up to 20 years ahead of symptoms and make it part of standard medical practice - just like a mammogram.

Sunday, June 7th, 10 am, join Trystan Reese when he presents "Gifts of Neurodiversity". Neurodiversity is everywhere, it seems. TV shows, movies, and books are all exploring the topic at length, but what does neurodiversity actually mean? This sermon will focus on how we can all better understand the most common neurotypes to be more understanding of others and empowered in our lives.
Trystan Reese is a returning speaker to the UUFM community, this time wearing his neurodiversity hat.

Thank you so much to all who donate food and volunteer time to check, clean, etc. at the Free Community Pantry on Fellows St. Some of us have had the opportunity to actually meet some of our guests who have told us how much they appreciate the help and have thanked us profusely. I wish we could all have this experience. Just as we usually don’t know who receives the food, we usually don’t know who brings it either. But we do know that by providing free, nutritious food, in a neighborhood, 24 hours a day, no questions asked, we are giving support to people who need it. Our focus has been people who work during the day and can’t get to pantries with limited hours or who do not have transportation or a parent at home after school, but all are welcome!
Together, we are doing good work! Thank you! Thank you to all who participate.

Brynn needs volunteers to join her for one hour to help with dishwashing/drying at First Presbyterian Church using their commercial dishwasher.

The shifts are:
1:00-2:00
3:00-4:00

Celebrate with UUFM this Sunday, May 17th, 10 am for the Annual Bridging/Quilt and Flower Communion Ceremonies.

Join us on May 17 for a joyful and heartfelt service as we honor UUFM’s graduating senior. Through the Bridging and Quilt Ceremony, we’ll celebrate his journey and surround him with love, support, and blessings as he steps into the next exciting chapter of his life. This special service will also include our beloved Flower Communion. Please bring a flower from your yard—or a neighbor’s (with permission)—to share in this beautiful tradition of community and connection.
