YSS is partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace - WV, Monongalia Co to provide beds to 30 children ages 3-17 in the greater Wheeling area who are sleeping in unsafe or unwanted conditions, including on floors, sofas or sharing a bed with parents or siblings.

The beds will be built on Aug. 29 and provided to children in our community who need a safe, comfortable place to sleep.

Families can apply online for a free bed at https://shpbeds.org/chapter/wv-monongalia-co/

Agencies and caseworkers can also submit an application on behalf of their clients.

SHP says it best, "No kids sleep on the floor in our town."

Please join us in prayer for West Virginia, as heavy rain caused severe flash flooding across the state on Tuesday, damaging roads, homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. We pray especially for those unaccounted for and those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

UMCOR is responding through a solidarity grant to the West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church, which will support their immediate relief efforts, including Early Response Team (ERT) deployment, relief supply distribution, debris removal, and addressing the immediate needs of impacted communities.

Our hearts and care go out to all persons in West Virginia impacted by yesterday’s flooding. Right now, the most meaningful help we can provide is financial support to enable disaster response efforts when called upon.

God of All Creation,

We are grateful for your constant presence in our lives, including during difficult times. On this day, we particularly lift those in our state who are experiencing flooding.

We pray for those whose houses have been damaged, vulnerable unhoused neighbors, rescue workers, affected businesses and others dealing with the aftermath of these floods. We ask for comfort, peace and strength for all whose lives have been impacted by this flooding.

Empower us, the part of the body of Christ known as the West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church, to generously provide resources and help where needed. May our ministry response reflect the courage and compassion of Jesus Christ, the One we follow.

Thank you, God, for walking with us through the storms of life. May your Holy Spirit empower us to respond to this crisis by being present for those in need, following your example.

In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Sustainer, we pray.
