Using Anger is a Problem
Speaking to your children in anger is destructive to your relationship. If you routinely use anger to discipline your children, you destroy their emotional trust in you. You become the enemy instead of the trusted advisor. Strong emotional trust is essential for a great relationship with your child. It is the emotional trust that you build in childhood that will help your child to navigate the teen years successfully. Do not let anger make you the enemy when your child needs you to be on their side.

We all get angry with our children from time to time and speak to them in anger. But when we do, we need to stop and apologize and then develop a plan not to use anger as a weapon in the future.

Parenting for Success and Integrity is likely going to be the hardest thing you ever do in your life. Raising children who are wise, kind, successful, and loving will challenge you in every possible way. It will require you to know and implement parenting principles patiently when you are tempted to react in anger. It will require you to grow your own moral character so that you can model morality for your children. It will require personal sacrifices of your own time, pride, and hobbies. And yet nothing is more important in life than pouring yourself into your children and readying them to be happy, healthy, and successful individuals with great character.
