Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission The main purpose and the reason the Rescue Mission exists is to fulfill the great commission as outlined by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19 and 20.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son More than a half century ago Martinsburg’s business, church, and community leaders saw a need: provide for the homeless. They joined together and in 1960 opened the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission. The mission has been caring for the homeless ever since. The mission serves three meals a day

, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to anyone who needs a meal, and provides shelter and support for men who would otherwise have no home.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Rocky Roach for joining us at our evening chapel service and faithfully sharing God's Word with those in our program.

At the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission, we believe true transformation begins with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are grateful for individuals like Rocky who are willing to invest their time, talents, and testimony into the lives of those seeking hope, healing, and a new beginning.

Every day, meals served at the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission provide more than nourishment—they provide hope, encouragement, and an opportunity to share the love of Christ.

Right now, our kitchen is in need of:

Why Do We Exist?

At the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission, we are much more than a shelter, a meal provider, or a recovery program.

The reason we exist is found in the words of Jesus:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you..." (Matthew 28:19-20)

Everything we do is an extension of that Great Commission.

When we provide a bed for someone experiencing homelessness, we are creating opportunities to share the hope of Christ.

When we serve meals, offer discipleship, provide clothing assistance, provide God’s Word to the men and women in our programs, or help families rebuild their lives, we are seeking to make disciples who follow Jesus.

Our goal is not simply to meet physical needs—though those needs are important. Our greatest desire is to see lives transformed by the Gospel, hearts changed by God's grace, and people equipped to walk faithfully with Christ.

Every program, every volunteer, every donor, and every act of service is part of a greater mission: to glorify God by making disciples and sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ.

This is why we exist.
