For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Nothing brings me greater happiness than to hear that my children are obeying the truth. 3 John 1:4

Heavenly Father, redirect my heart and mind, so I put You first in all I do.

Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14

Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your healing (restoration, new life) will quickly spring forth; Your righteousness will go before you [leading you to peace and prosperity], The glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:8 (Amp Bible)

Sin is Serious to God

PRAY OVER THIS

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24

PONDER THIS

When you are saved, sin will never be on your account again. God will not impute sin to you. Now you say, “Well, Pastor Rogers, what if I get saved and then I sin again?” Did I hear you say, “What if”? You know, some people have the idea that, “If I’m living right when I die, I’ll go to Heaven.” Do you think your goodness is going to get you to Heaven? No! “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit” (Psalm 32:1-2). If He were to put one-half of one sin on your account, you’d die and go to Hell. God is a holy God, but He will not impute iniquity. Now that doesn’t mean you can sin and get by with it. Sin is serious to God, and He deals with it seriously.

We need to keep a short account with God, confessing and repenting of our sins regularly. His grace is abundant, but it has come at a cost. It is a gift to be treasured, not squandered. He will not impute sin onto your account any longer. What amazing grace! When you understand grace, you can understand why John Newton wrote the famous line, “Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.”

*Where do you struggle to believe God will not count sin against you if you are in Christ?

*What makes God’s grace seem too good to be true?

PRACTICE THIS

Have a conversation with a friend about God’s grace. Share the areas where it’s hard for you to believe, seeking to encourage one another in the reality of God’s grace.

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 1 John 5:7

The first man [Adam] is from the earth, earthy [made of dust]; the second Man [Christ, the Lord] is from heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:47 (Amplified Bible)

Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility], Philippians 2:5 (Amplified Bible)

God is a God of grace; God is a God of forgiveness; God is a God of another chance!

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

Are You Guarding What is Important?

PRAY OVER THIS

“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.” Psalm 57:7-11

PONDER THIS

Watch what you read and what you see. Decide there are certain things you are not going to watch. Discipline your life. You wouldn’t put garbage in your mouth, so don’t put garbage in your mind. And guard your company, too: “the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20).

You also need to have determination to stay in the Lord’s way. Joshua essentially said, “I don't know what course others will take, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15, author’s paraphrase). And I love what the Psalmist said: “My heart is steadfast, O God.” If you make up your mind about one big decision, you won’t have to keep making up your mind about a lot of little decisions. Because your heart is fixed, you have determined, “Oh God, my God, I will serve You.”

*What does it look like to be determined to live for the Lord?

*What are some ways you need to guard your company or your mind this week?

PRACTICE THIS

Confess some of the ways you have failed to guard your mind. Ask God to lead you in His way to keep you steadfast.
