Our August Mission of the Month: Beacon of Hope, is a lifeline for many, located in Marshall, is a crucial provider of food assistance to approximately 1,000 low-income families each month in Madison and surrounding counties. Our contributions to this ministry, whether financial or in-kind, make a difference in the lives of these families. Recently, they received dozens of bagels from Joey’s Bagels that members of our congregation retrieved at the end of the business day, repackaged, and delivered. Other contributions are also celebrated, especially financial donations, which they use to purchase food from Manna Food Bank.

All proceeds from Beacon of Hope’s thrift store on S. Main Street in Marshall help keep the ministry operating. One donor has said that Beacon stretches a dollar further than any other nonprofit he’s ever seen! Financial contributions and contributions of household items and/or clothing are appreciated! You may also sign up to volunteer on their website.

Sunday morning. The doors open. Someone finds a familiar pew. The first notes rise.

Then Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?”

It is an old question, but not a dusty one. It waits for each of us to answer with the life we are living now.

Come sit with us Sunday at Mars Hill United Methodist Church… 9:45 am in Mars Hill and online.

“Who gets included?” It sounds like a simple question. It isn’t.

Sunday, we sat with it. We listened. We looked at the people Jesus made room for and what that asks of us now.

If you missed worship, or want to sit with it again, watch Sunday’s service:

Don’t miss these opportunities to connect this week: in Mars Hill + online.

Welcome friends!

Who gets included? It’s a question that runs through our scripture this week and one that still asks something of us.

In Matthew, we meet a woman who will not be turned away. We’ll also hear Jeremiah’s call, pray the words of Psalm 67, and listen to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the “World House.”

Come worship with us as we wonder together about who we welcome, who we listen to and how wide we’re willing to make the circle.

There’s a place for you here.

Come as you are. You are welcome here. All means ALL.

On September 19th in the little town of Mars Hill, North Carolina…the annual Apple Butter Festival takes place, bringing a true taste of mountain tradition to the grounds shared by Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church and the Ebbs Chapel Community Center. The star of the day is homemade apple butter, prepared the old-fashioned mountain way in large kettles over wood fires, with experienced cooks keeping the bubbling mixture stirred. Visitors can watch the process, smell the apples cooking, and take home jars of the finished spread. The festival also brings vendors to the grounds, along with a large selection of homemade baked goods, breakfast and lunch, and rummage-sale finds. It has the feel of a small community gathering rather than a huge commercial event, with neighbors and visitors coming together around food, crafts, conversation, and mountain traditions.

This Sunday, we’re sitting with a question that sounds simple until we really start thinking about it:

𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒅?

We’ll hear Jeremiah’s call, meet a woman in Matthew’s Gospel who refuses to be pushed aside, and listen to the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the “World House” we all share.

And somewhere in all of it is a question for the church, too.

Who do we welcome? Who do we notice? Who is still waiting to be invited in?

Come as you are. There’s room for you here. ❤️

What does it mean to step out of the boat when the water is rough and fear feels stronger than faith?

Sunday’s service brought together Isaiah’s vision of the wilderness blooming, the promise of Psalm 121 and Matthew’s account of Peter walking toward Jesus on the water. It was a reminder that courage does not mean the absence of fear—it means trusting that Christ is still reaching for us in the middle of it.

Join us for worship online at Mars Hill United Methodist Church as we discover courage in the midst of fear, hope in uncertain times and the faith to step out of the boat.
