Journey Church

Journey Church Journey United Methodist Church worships Sundays at 10:15 am at Pima Butte Elementary School. We believe Jesus is the Lord.

We believe that the Lord Jesus invites everyone, everywhere to be in relationship with him. This is the starting point of a transformed life and an important step of the journey. Believing in Jesus is not, however, the finish point of the journey.

August 30, 2026: Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 105:1-6, 23-26, 45c; Romans 12:9-21; Matthew 16:21-28

Woven through three of these scriptures is the theme of moving through and overcoming trials: as God sees the suffering of the Israelites and calls Moses to lead them from slavery to freedom; as Paul instructs the early church on how to endure suffering—staying humble, caring for others, choosing good over bitterness; as Jesus prepares his friends for his suffering, death, and resurrection, not even deterred by Peter’s fear and discomfort. Within that first theme lies a second theme: not letting ourselves be caught up in bitterness or vengeance but leaving the judgment of foes for God to handle. Perhaps both themes may be accented by the words of the psalmist to sing of God’s miracles, remember God’s faithfulness, and seek God’s strength to carry us through.

Join us on Sunday as we explore God's call to Moses.

Peace,
Pastor G

August 23, 2026: Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Exodus 1:8–2:10; Psalm 124; Romans 12:1-8; Matthew 16:13-20

It takes a village to build the realm of God. Each person has a role to play. It took a village of women (the midwives Shiphrah and Puah, Moses’ mother and sister, and the daughter of Pharaoh) to birth, protect, and raise Moses—the leader who would lead the Hebrew people from slavery and oppression. It took Peter and the disciples to proclaim the good news after Jesus’ death. It took people with many and diverse spiritual gifts to fill the church with the talents it needed to thrive. Truly, it takes a village to build the realm of God.

August 16, 2026: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Genesis 45:1-15; Psalm 133; Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32; Matthew 15:21-28
What unites us is far greater than what divides us. Joseph forgives his brothers for selling him into slavery, for God used this terrible act to save Israelites and Egyptians alike from famine. The psalmist celebrates when kindred live together in unity. Paul asks rhetorically if God has rejected the Hebrew people by offering salvation to the Gentiles, and answers no. Jesus initially refuses to help a Canaanite woman’s daughter until she presses her case. Then Jesus joyfully heals the daughter, marveling at the mother’s faith. We are all bound together in the unconditional love of God.

Peace,
Pastor G

What's happening this weekend?
August 9, 2026: Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28; Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b; Romans 10:5-15; Matthew 14:22-33

In Matthew 14:22-33, the disciples are overwhelmed with exhaustion after far too many hours battling the storm. They are literally being tormented by the waves. Even though many are seasoned fishermen, they realize their skills will not save them from the life-threatening situation. In the early morning hours, in the deep darkness, with the winds roaring and the waves crashing, Jesus comes straight for them. They mistake him for a spirit of death, but soon experience him as the powerful, rescuing Son of God.
