This morning I was frustrated that my four year old left his new dinosaur in the car and knowing he would be wanting it at bed time I knew I had to go home first before heading out for the day.

I ended up on the highway towards school 30 minutes later than usual and the traffic was way worse than a typical Tuesday morning.

Several miles down the road, at the exit I usually get on after dropping off the kids, there was an 8 car pileup, several of the cars beyond recognition.

My frustrations turned into blessings. And then into prayers for all those involved. And then into thanksgiving for knowing to take the extra time to take the dinosaur home to avoid the catastrophe.

I suppose it’s not entirely biblical to state “everything happens for a reason” but I do believe that God is in control. I wouldn’t be here if he weren’t.

Prior to 1973 the APA (American Psychological Association) diagnosed homosexuality as a mental disorder. However, due to pressure and threats from activists the APA changed homosexuality to a "sexual orientation disturbance" in 1973. By 2015, the APA considered homosexuality to be a "normal expression of human sexuality." Their change in position was not scientific, but rather social pressure.

We are all sinners, and we are all flawed, and we all need Jesus. But maybe, just maybe, this could have been prevented.

“When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring the guilt of blood upon your house, if anyone should fall from it.”
Deuteronomy 22:8, ESV

Parapet: a dwarf wall or heavy railing around the edge of a roof, balcony, terrace, or stairway designed to prevent those behind it from falling over.

A conversation with my eleven year old daughter today had us talking about parapets. We had been looking at homes that were basically glorified squares and I made the comment about Israel and Mosaic law and they were required to have parapets on their rooftops. I then had to explain what a parapet was because that’s not typical language/conversation for most people.
She asked then, if we have a fence along the roof to prevent people from getting hurt, how do we protect the people on the inside from the “bad” on the outside? If the law states we have to keep everyone safe on the inside, what prevents anyone from the outside coming in and causing harm?
I thought about this and said that God didn’t make any mistakes. He wanted us to love everyone and protect others from harm. He put it in His law that we do this. But he didn’t put it into his law that we should have locks and alarm systems and ring cameras. He knew not everyone would follow the law. But he told HIS people that if they just trust him, they would have nothing to worry about. They had no need to fear, as long as they loved and obeyed God.
And while the idea of a parapet was applicable to the days of the ancient Israelites, the whole concept is still applicable today. We are to love our neighbors and keep them safe. And we are to trust in God because if we put our trust anywhere else, we are useless. Only God can take care of us the way we need. He is our Abba.

I know there are bad parts of town, and really bad people and security cameras and alarm systems and whatnot are all really helpful things. And I believe that God allowed those items to be created to aid us in our safety. But we still need to trust in him. If we rely only on those cameras, and have no trust in him, then we have absolutely everything to fear.

Had the beautiful opportunity to see/hear Dr. Albert Mohler speak on Tuesday evening. He had many wonderful words to say, but this quote was his finish line so to speak.

We are in this world but not from it, we are meant to stand out.

In the book of Job, God defines the very nature and stature of Leviathan. The last verse of chapter 41 states:

He sees everything that is high;
he is king over all the sons of pride

The “he” in reference is Leviathan. Leviathan is Satan.
Satan and his influence and his pride have become the normal in our country, and in our current culture. He isn’t even trying to hide it.

We need to cling to Christ.

Post-modernism does not belong in the Bible!
- David did not r_pe Bathsheba
- Job did not throw his hands in the air and walk away from God
- Lazarus did not “come out” when he was told to come out of the tomb by Jesus.
Understand the culture of the time. Understand the history of the time. Hermeneutics matter.
