Staff training week 1 is complete!

Our staff training theme is “back to the basics,” focusing on the traditions, activities, and spiritual growth opportunities that make Camp Shalom the place that it is!☀️

Through training sessions and team-building, our staff continues preparing for a fun-filled summer of Christ-centered camp ministry.

One highlight of our week was visiting the Hurstville Interpretive Center, a favorite for our Journey campers, where they can explore and learn about the wildlife of eastern Iowa.🐢🐻

Staff training has begun! ✨ After day one, we already know this is a special group God has brought out here. Their compassion, energy, and desire to serve Christ was evident from arrival at camp to all camp games and worship. It’s shaping up to be an amazing summer, and we can’t wait for the next two weeks! ☀️

Headed up to camp this weekend for our open house? Join us at 10:30 for the blessing of our new building. This project will serve campers, staff, and visitors to camp for years to come, and it wouldn't have been possible without you.

It’s hard to believe that the 2026 summer camp season — and our 50th season at Camp Shalom — is just a few weeks away! We are so excited to welcome back returning campers and can’t wait to meet the new faces who will become part of the Camp Shalom family this summer.

We are blessed with an amazing team this year, including familiar faces and new additions. We are especially excited to welcome our new Executive Director, Noah Scantland, along with his wife Izzy and their children, Caspian and Rosie, to the Camp Shalom community.

We are also deeply thankful for Dwayne Heinrich, whose faithful behind-the-scenes work helps make camp a safe, welcoming, and memorable place for every camper.

This summer also marks a season of transition as we celebrate and thank Natalie Scheers for 10 years of faithful service to Camp Shalom as a camper, staff member, and most recently Program Director. Natalie has made the decision to move on from camp as she begins a new chapter and pursues the many opportunities ahead of her.
In Natalie’s own words:
“I am so grateful for the years of growth and the deep connections made with staff and families alike. Camp Shalom has a way of staying with you, and I will always continue to pray for this community, asking for continued blessings, energy, and joy for everyone who keeps the spirit of camp alive. Thank you for being part of my story and for letting me be a part of yours.”

We are incredibly grateful for Natalie’s impact on so many lives and ask that you continue to keep her in your prayers as she begins this next chapter.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who supports, encourages, and prays for Camp Shalom. Summer is almost here, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for this season of ministry, growth, friendship, and joy.

Time is running out to level up! 🧗‍♂️ With summer just around the corner, we are down to our final two sessions for Ascent with open spots.

Ascent is the perfect bridge for campers entering 6th grade, by mixing the classic Village traditions they love with new challenges like the High Ropes Course. Space is limited, and these spots are filling up fast!
