Morning Manna: Years ago, a California couple went to a garage sale. The husband looked in the corner and spotted an old, broken-down motorcycle. With little negotiation, he purchased the old bike for $35.

For years, it sat in the couple's garage untouched. The wife finally said, " If you don’t get rid of this bike, I will donate it to the local thrift store!” Feeling the pressure, the man called the Harley-Davidson dealership in his area. After listing all the needed parts, he gave them the serial number. A long silence ensued. The dealership said they would call him back soon. The Husband immediately thought the worst. “Could the motorcycle be stolen?”

It wasn’t long before the dealership called back and stated his bike was a rare piece of American history. Unbeknownst to him, the motorcycle had once belonged to Elvis Presley. While the bike was not in working condition, it was worth six figures!

What made the motorcycle so valuable? It’s because of WHO it was made for!

Listen, friend, our worth as Christians is not dependent upon what we do or where we are from. Our worth comes from the fact that we belong to God. He doesn’t make junk!

Perhaps life hasn't been good to you. Maybe you have weathered countless storms that have left you broken down, feeling inoperable. No matter the circumstance, you can soar again!

2 Corinthians 4:7 says,
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

Remember, you belong to God and are valuable in His sight despite your condition.

“Thank you, Lord, for WHO we are in you!”

Morning Manna: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matt 6:19

Jesus spent a great deal of time countering the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees. While these men knew the law, they failed to see the Lord of it.
Back in those days, the hearts of the Pharisees had been corroded by corruption and wickedness. The “righteousness” of these men was only outward. Inward, they were rotten to the core.

These men had accumulated trophies of “righteousness,” wearing their accomplishments with the desire only to be seen and praised by men. These men were far from righteous.

Let me ask you a question. “When you do something kind for a person, what is your motive?” Is it purely to be seen or heard? Appreciation is one thing, but flattery puffed up is another.

While Jesus, in this passage, is not condemning a retirement account or investment portfolio, He is rebuking a philosophy that is all about the now. Sadly, many people only live for the now: the adrenaline, excitement, and rush of pleasure.

While there is nothing wrong with having THINGS, something is wrong when those things have YOU.

Know this: God cares less about WHAT you have and more about WHO you are.

Let’s work to build another kingdom: The kingdom of God, and may our hearts treasure be found in Him.

Morning Manna: “And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you.” Psalms 39:7

What is hope? Sadly, our English vocabulary doesn't do the word justice. For instance, how often have you heard someone say, “I hope it doesn't rain.” Biblical Hope has no question mark or nuance of hesitation.

Faith is trust and confidence in someone or something, while hope is the eager expectation and excitement of that reality. So, while these words are often used interchangeably, there is a difference.

For instance, your parents promised you a brand-new four-wheeler for your birthday. Because they gave you their word, you have faith that on your birthday, you will receive the four-wheeler promised.
This is faith.

In addition, you are also excited about this present and eagerly await your birthday, which you know will soon come. That is hope!

So next time you get discouraged with a job, co-worker, or friend, remember that none of these things were ever meant to give you purpose. Only Jesus can do that.

My prayer today is that you do not lose faith or hope in any bleak situation. You can only find them in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
