Thoughts from your pastor…

I was asked this question from one of our young ladies in the youth group.

Did people in the Old Testament go to heaven even though Jesus hadn’t died yet?

Yes… and here’s why.

People have always been saved the same way: by God’s grace through faith. In the Old Testament, believers trusted in God’s promise of a coming Savior. They didn’t know His name yet, but they believed God would provide a way.

Abraham is a great example. He believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. He wasn’t saved by works or the law, but by faith.

When Jesus died on the cross, His sacrifice paid for sins past, present, and future. So Old Testament believers were saved by the same Jesus we trust in today. They looked forward in faith, while we look back.

Salvation has always been about trusting God and it has always been made possible through Christ.

I hope you’re getting excited for this Sunday!

Join us at 10 AM as we gather to learn about Jesus, followed by corporate worship at 11 AM.

Then at 4 PM, come back and bring a side dish to share as we enjoy a community meal with our brothers and sisters in Christ from Pendleton.

It’s going to be a great day! Invite someone to come with you!

Thoughts from your pastor…
I was recently asked the following question and want to ask you the same.

Is obedience the root of salvation or the fruit of salvation?

The Bible makes it clear—obedience is not the root, it’s the fruit.

We are saved by grace through faith, not by our works (Ephesians 2:8–9). We could never obey well enough to earn salvation. But once God saves us, He begins to change us.

Obedience isn’t how we get God’s love. It’s how we show we already have it.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” – Jesus

Don’t try to earn it. Live it.

Thoughts from your pastor…

Saturday is the quietest day of Passion Week.

Jesus has been crucified. His body lies in the tomb. The crowds have dispersed. The disciples are scattered, grieving, confused, and afraid. Heaven seems silent.

This is the in-between day.

It’s the space between promise and fulfillment… between heartbreak and hope… between what God said and what we can currently see.

Have you ever lived in a “Saturday”? A season where prayers feel unanswered, where God seems distant, where the future is uncertain?

Saturday reminds us of a powerful truth: God is still working, even in the silence.

While the world saw a sealed tomb, God was preparing a resurrection. While fear gripped the disciples, victory was already in motion. The silence was not absence—it was anticipation.

Sometimes God does His deepest work when it feels like He’s doing nothing at all.

So if you find yourself in a Saturday season today:
• Hold onto what you know is true
• Trust what God has already promised
• Wait with expectation, not despair

Because Sunday is coming.

Thoughts from your pastor…

Today we stand at the foot of the cross.

Good Friday is the darkest day in human history. But it is also the most hopeful. Jesus, beaten, mocked, and crucified, spoke three powerful words before He breathed His last: “It is finished.”

This was not a cry of defeat. It was a declaration of victory.

The work of redemption was complete.

Every sin past, present, and future was paid for in full. The weight of our guilt, shame, and rebellion was placed upon Christ, and He bore it willingly.

The cross was not a tragic accident. It was God’s divine plan to rescue us.

In the silence that followed His death, it may have seemed like evil had won. The disciples were scattered. Hope appeared lost. But what looked like an ending was actually the beginning of new life.

Good Friday reminds us:
• God’s love is sacrificial.
• Sin is costly.
• Grace is freely given.

When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He meant that nothing more is required for your salvation. You don’t have to earn it—you simply receive it.

Today ask yourself these two questions:
What does it mean to you personally that Jesus paid it all?
Is there anything you’re still trying to carry that He already finished?
