Good afternoon sisters and brothers! I wanted to let you know of an easy project here at the church, that can both help our VBS as well as support a worthy mission. It's real simple: take a look through your junk drawers, kids rooms, playrooms and travel bags and see if you can find any broken crayons. Then, bring them to church and dump them in the bucket just outside the church door. A handful of them will be used for our VBS Craft station, and the rest we will send off to support this cause:

If you have any questions, let me know. Otherwise, bring us those crayons!!

Love y'all,

Pastor Marc

Step back in time: Experience worship as the early Methodists did 250 years ago As communities across the nation prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America's founding, one local congregation is inviting the public to celebrate in a unique and meaningful way.

Ever wondered what worship looked like in John Wesley's day? Ever wondered what Pastor Marc O’Neal of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church might look like wearing an 18th-century white wig? Wonder no more!

As communities across the nation prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America's founding, one local congregation is inviting the public to celebrate in a unique and meaningful way—by stepping back into the worship traditions that shaped the faith of many early Americans.

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, worshippers at Mount Olivet UMC in Manteo will have the opportunity to experience services inspired by the worship life of the "people called Methodist" in 1776, the year America declared its independence.

“Drawing from the historic 1662 Book of Common Prayer, the services will offer a glimpse into the style of worship that nourished the spiritual lives of early Methodists and Anglicans during one of the most pivotal moments in American history,” states the announcement of the services.

While the language and liturgy may feel different from contemporary worship, participants will discover a rich tradition centered on Scripture, prayer and the sacraments, notes the announcement. Historic prayers, readings and forms of worship from the 18th century will help bring the past to life while offering fresh inspiration for faith today.\

Guests can attend either or both services:

Morning Prayer – 9 a.m. Service of Word and Table – 10 a.m.
