THIS is why WOW matters. šŸ’™

We are incredibly proud to see Texas Health Community Hope sharing Helen’s story and the impact of Wellness on Wheels (WOW).

When we began this program, the goal was never simply to provide healthier groceries. We wanted to give people practical tools, encouragement and consistent support that could help them take greater control of their health.

Helen is living proof of what can happen. Thirty pounds lost. No longer needing blood pressure medication. New habits. Renewed confidence. And, in her own words, ā€œThis program has changed my life.ā€

That is the outcome we hoped for when WOW began—and Helen is only one of the people whose health journey has changed through this program.

We are deeply grateful to Texas Health for believing in this work and investing in a model that brings together nutritious food, health education, preventive screenings and personal support.

This is More Than Food. A Way Forward.ā„¢ And we could not be more proud of Helen. šŸ’™

🌟 "This program has changed my life." 🌟
Five months ago, Helen joined the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) grant funded program led by HIM Food Bank, in collaboration with Central Storehouse and Under The Bridge Fort Worth, hoping to improve her health. Today, at age 51, she has lost 30 pounds, no longer requires blood pressure medication, and has discovered a renewed commitment to her well-being.
Through healthy groceries, nutrition education, preventive health screenings, and ongoing encouragement, Helen has built habits she plans to carry forward for the rest of her life. She even credits the program's gratitude journal with helping her focus on the positive changes in her health and outlook. But for Helen, the impact goes beyond the numbers. She says the kindness, support and encouragement she receives from WOW staff and volunteers each month make her feel valued, respected and empowered.
Stories like Helen's demonstrate the power of combining healthy food access, nutrition education, preventive care, and compassionate support. Texas Health is proud to invest in Wellness on Wheels and celebrates that participants across Tarrant County are improving their health and gaining the tools and confidence to thrive.
šŸ’™ Together, we're helping build healthier communities, one life-changing journey at a time.

I ASKED. THEY LISTENED. šŸ’™

Sometimes making a difference begins with simply asking the people around you to join you.

As students headed back to school, Kathryn Thompson, HIM Food Bank’s Partner Engagement Manager, had a simple idea. She asked her own family and friends to help her collect two items that can make busy mornings a little easier for local students and families: cereal and peanut butter.

And they listened.

🄣 More than 50 boxes of cereal
🄜 30 jars of peanut butter

All collected through Kathryn’s personal drive for HIM Food Bank.

A box of cereal or a jar of peanut butter may seem like a small thing. But added together, these gifts become part of the healthy groceries that help families stretch their budgets and help students begin their day with something to eat before heading to school.

Kathryn shared this about the response:

ā€œEach act of generosity has a story behind it. I am so thankful for my family and friends who answered when I asked—and most of all, thankful to God for blessing us with generous hearts and the opportunity to give back.ā€

Thank you, Kathryn, for seeing an opportunity and acting on it. And thank you to every friend and family member who listened, gave and helped turn one person’s idea into meaningful impact.

Sometimes A Way Forward begins with one person willing to ask. ā¤ļø

FAITH IN ACTION. šŸ’™

A heartfelt thank you to First Methodist Mansfield for choosing HIM Food Bank as a recipient of their Feed the City offering.

Feed the City is connected to the church’s practice of fasting. As members fast, they are encouraged to estimate the cost of the food they would have eaten and give that amount through a special offering. Those gifts are then used to support food ministries and programs throughout the city.

It is a simple idea with meaningful impact: sacrifice something for yourself so that someone else may have more.

We are grateful that their recent Feed the City offering to HIM Food Bank will help provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy groceries to students and families throughout our community.

To the congregation of First Methodist Mansfield, thank you for putting your faith into action and for choosing to share the impact of Feed the City with HIM Food Bank.

Your generosity is helping healthy groceries reach our community and creating A Way Forward for others. ā¤ļø

Mansfield ISD Athletic Day of Service

They brought the energy—even when Texas brought the heat. ā˜€ļø

A big thank you to the Mansfield ISD athletes who spent their Day of Service volunteering at HIM Food Bank!

It was HOT, but these students showed up ready to work. They brought great attitudes, a strong work ethic, and plenty of determination to get the job done.

And their time mattered.

Because of their service, 100 families will be impacted.

That’s what we love about seeing young people serve. A few hours of their time becomes something much bigger when it moves through a regional food bank and reaches families in our community.

To these athletes, their coaches, and Mansfield ISD—thank you for showing up, working hard, and choosing to make a difference.

We’re grateful you chose to spend your Day of Service helping create A Way Forward for others. šŸ’™

Joy Doesn’t Care How Hot It Is. ā˜€ļøšŸ’™

Some volunteer groups leave a lasting impression—not just because of what they accomplish, but because of the joy they bring while doing it.

This week, we had the privilege of welcoming the Included Special Needs Ministry from First Methodist Mansfield to HIM Food Bank.

The Texas heat didn’t slow them down.

Their smiles never faded.

Their encouragement was contagious.

And their enthusiasm reminded all of us that serving others is one of life’s greatest blessings.

Together, this incredible team of 17 volunteers spent 34 hours preparing healthy groceries for families across North Texas. They labeled 550 packages, packaged 360 pounds of dinner loaf, bagged 420 pounds of potatoes, and created an estimated $2,045 in volunteer impact. Their work will help prepare more than 1,000 meals and support healthy groceries reaching an estimated 5,320 people.

To every volunteer, leader, caregiver, and family member…

Thank you for reminding us that the greatest strength is often found in a joyful heart.

You inspired our staff just as much as you served our community.

Thank you for helping create A Way Forward.

Healthy Groceries. Regional Impact. A Way Forward.

ā˜€ļø They Beat the Texas Heat… and Made a Lasting Difference! ā¤ļø

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing middle school students from Walnut Ridge Church who spent part of their summer serving at HIM Food Bank today!

While many people were staying inside to escape the heat, these 17 students showed up with incredible enthusiasm, servant hearts, and a willingness to work. In just 51 volunteer hours, they accomplished an incredible amount:

🄫 Packed 325 pounds of rice
🄫 Packed 200 pounds of beans
šŸ›ļø Prepared 165 grocery bags
🄨 Bagged 180 pounds of pretzels

Because of their hard work, they created an estimated $5,647.25 in community impact, helping prepare food that will reach approximately 2,470 people across North Texas.

These students didn’t just volunteer—they chose to invest their time serving others. They reminded us that compassion doesn’t have an age requirement, and that even a few hours can make a tremendous difference in the lives of families, seniors, veterans, and children.

Thank you, Walnut Ridge Church, for raising up a generation that understands what it means to serve with joy.

Together, we’re providing more than food. We’re creating a way forward. ā¤ļø

Every Truckload Has a Destination.

A regional food bank measures success by where healthy groceries go—not simply where they arrive.

Every truck that arrives at HIM Food Bank has a purpose beyond our warehouse.

As a regional food bank, our mission isn’t simply to receive healthy groceries—it’s to ensure they reach the people and organizations counting on them.

Every delivery helps supply healthy groceries to families directly while also supporting schools, churches, healthcare organizations, and nonprofit partners serving communities throughout North Texas.

That’s the difference a regional food bank makes.

We believe healthy groceries create opportunities. Opportunities help families move forward. And when organizations work together, the impact reaches far beyond one building.

Healthy Groceries. Regional Impact. A Way Forward.
