St John Lutheran Church Madison, SD We are an outward-focused congregation, offering many opportunities to worship, grow, and serve. We gather for Worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

We gather for worship at church and on Facebook Sundays at 10:00am, with Sunday school at 9:00am. Our community clothing room is free and open to the public for shopping and donations Mondays-Fridays 8am-3pm and Saturdays 9am-12pm.

We will begin this year's cycle of the Narrative Lectionary this Sunday with the well-known story of Noah and the ark. Generations after the creation of the first people, God sees that humanity has become selfish and cruel, so God resolves to start over by creating a flood to wipe out all of creation, saving only Noah, his family, and representatives of every species of animal on an ark.

Join us this for worship at St. John this Sunday as we unpack this familiar story, install our Sunday school teachers, and present Bibles to our three-year-old's and third-graders.

Our return to Sunday school on September 13 will coincide with "God's Work. Our Hands" Sunday, the ELCA's annual day of service.

Our focus this year will be existing St. John outreach ministries: DSU Lutheran Campus Ministry (a joint venture with Trinity Lutheran) and our Community Clothing Room. After a brief check-in for Sunday school children and parents, we will have the following projects during the 9:00am Fellowship Hour:

* Filling "Welcome Bags" for DSU students (there are still a few items needed to purchase, check the board in Fellowship Hall), and making cards to include in the welcome bags.

* Helping to set up for our Clothing Room Winter Coat Giveaway which will be the following Saturday, September 19.

Our 10:00am worship on September 13 will include a blessing for our Sunday school teachers, presentation of Bibles to 3 year olds and 3rd graders, and more. It will be a busy, joyous day!

Last year we introduced the Narrative Lectionary, and will take it up again this year, starting Sunday, September 13, with a whole new set of passages from scripture. Our walk-through-the-Bible will start with “God’s Promises Bring Hope,” a five-week series from Noah and the Ark in Genesis through the Ten Commandments in Exodus.

We look forward to having our weekly take-home devotional inserts which will connect directly with the readings, and to looking at the passages for the upcoming Sunday each week during our Monday morning Bible study.
