Honoring the Life and Ministry of Rev. Clarence W. Bowen, Jr.

Johnson’s United Methodist Church gives thanks for the life and faithful ministry of Rev. Clarence W. Bowen, Jr., who served as our pastor from 1999 to 2021 and who claimed his resurrection on August 29th 2026.

Clarence shepherded this congregation with a gentle spirit, a steady presence, and a deep love for all of God's people. His years at Johnson’s were marked by compassion, humility, and a pastor’s heart that welcomed everyone who walked through our doors.

Before entering ministry, Clarence proudly served 20 years in the United States Navy, a life of service that shaped his discipline, his integrity, and his devotion to others. After retiring from the Navy, he answered God’s call into pastoral ministry, serving faithfully in the United Methodist Church for 43 years until his retirement.

Those who knew Clarence remember his warm humor, his ability to make others laugh, and the joy he carried into every room. His ministry touched countless lives here on the Eastern Shore, and his legacy continues in the people he loved, the prayers he prayed, and the gospel he preached.

We give thanks to God for Clarence’s life, his service, and his years among us at Johnson’s.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

Celebrate the life of The Rev. Clarence Bowen Jr. and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.

This Sunday we’re exploring being called into community. God’s call may begin as a quiet whisper, but it grows when we walk together- listening, discerning, and discovering God’s leading side by side. From Exodus to Matthew, from ancient Israel to our own lives today, we’ll look at how God forms us into a people who hear His voice together. If you’ve ever wondered how God might be speaking through the people around you, you are not alone.

You are warmly welcomed to worship this Sunday at 10 AM, in person here at Johnson’s UMC or online from wherever you are. Come and be part of a community listening for God’s leading, gathering around Christ’s presence, and discovering together how grace shapes our lives.

This Sunday at 10am we begin Week One of our new series, Called.
We’re starting with Called to Turn Aside, those quiet moments when something makes you pause… and God might be gently getting your attention.

If you’ve felt that small tug lately, that sense that something matters, you’re not alone.

The doors of Johnson’s UMC are open to all, in person or online.
No pressure. Just space to listen for God’s leading.

This Sunday at 10am, we begin a new series at Johnson’s UMC called Called.

It’s about those quiet moments that feel like they have your name on them, moments where God might be gently leading.

We’ll explore what it means to be:

• called to turn aside
• called to community
• called to trust
• called to grace

The doors of Johnson’s UMC are open to all, in person or online.

No pressures. No commitments. A space to listen for God’s leading.

Grace is already out ahead of us, opening doors, widening our horizons, and preparing us for the people we have not yet met. This Sunday at Johnson’s UMC, we’ll step into that truth together as we hear how Joseph and the Canaanite woman discovered that God was already moving on the other side of the lines they crossed.

All are invited to worship in person or online at 10 AM this Sunday.

We’ll share a special moment of blessing as we pray over students, teachers, and administrators ahead of the new school year.

Children, bring your backpacks; they’ll be blessed as part of our Back to School prayer. We can’t wait to surround our kids and educators with love, courage, and grace as they begin a new year.

Come with hope. Come with courage. Come ready to see where grace is already leading us next.
