To Know Christ and to Make Him Known

Mountain View is an independent Mennonite church, located in Augusta County, Virginia, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The original Mountain View sanctuary was built in 1900, the result of the interest of several Mennonite farmers who rented pasture from Scotch-Irish farmers in the mountains. With no church near

by, these contacts opened the door to a Mennonite church in the mountains of Sherando, VA. Members of Springdale Mennonite Church accepted the call to begin and construct the church. Dedication Day for the new church was held on December 23, 1900. In January 1950, a new church replaced the old on the same site. Since this time, the structure has been expanded twice to add a new sanctuary, which was dedicated April 18, 1971, followed by a fellowship hall in 1987. Roy Kiser documented the history of Mountian View in his book, Mission In The Mountain. Rev. Kiser wrote in the Introduction that "Few churches can boast a more beautiful setting than that enjoyed by Mountain View Mennonite Church, located near the southermost tip of Augusta County, Virginia. A tributary of the South River which flows into the Shenandoah, Back Creek, flows nearby and the Blue Ridge Mountains rise rather abruptly to the south and also directly behind the church. Here in this glen, the fire of the Lord has fallen on many occasions, and He has done a great spiritual work among the people who have allowed their lives to be touched by it." Today, Mountain View strives to continue in the spirit of the original founders with members and attenders from from all walks of life - learning, worshiping, and working together for the glory of God. Kiser was pastor of Mountain View from 1964 to 1981. He passed away in 1989 following a battle with cancer.

Kate Ramsey says: Hi team! A local family needs a few items to prepare their home to be approved for fostering. Does anyone have a dresser or desk that is in good condition to donate or would be able to donate, even just a portion, to the purchase of one or both of these items?

Help a Local Family Prepare to Welcome Children Into Foster Care A local Waynesboro family is in the final stages of becoming a licensed foster home and is preparing their home to safely welcome a child or sibling group into their care. They have already completed two home visits and are working to have the remaining items in place before their final home visit. The family is requesting help with: * Dresser- tall * Small desk * Two-story emergency escape ladder — minimum 13 ft The emergency escape ladder is an important home-safety item needed for the second-story bedroom that will be used by a child in their care. By helping provide these items, our community has an opportunity to support a family who is stepping forward to open their home to children who may need a safe place to land. Impact: Helps prepare and equip a new foster home so they can move forward with the approval process and be ready to welcome children into care. Thank you for helping remove practical barriers for families saying yes to foster care.

This is a local request- if anyone is interested, I can get you in contact with the point person.
“Do I have any teens that need service hours for school or college, or just a man or two that have the heart to serve those in our area that need help?

I have a widowed grandmother in Staunton that is raising her 3 grandchildren and desperately needs a swing set put together for them to have outdoor activities. 🫶🏼”

"Help Preserve a Kinship Placement
fundable $1,489.00 still needed
Request: #303102 • Urgency: Normal • Demographic: Child-Centered Request • City: Staunton • State: Virginia • Zip Code: 24401 • County: Staunton City • Submitted By: Shenandoah Valley Social Services • Languages: English

Story • children served 1 Children adults served 1 Adult
Southside Church of God was very gracious and helped cover the diagnostic test for a kinship placement whose car has been having issues. The results from the test came back and Hershey auto repair has quoted $1,788.71 is needed to cover the repairs. I have received the paperwork showing this amount. The kinship placement needs help covering the cost as she needs her car to drive herself to and from work and to take their kinship placement to all their appointments. Or if there is a community member who could help with the repairs which includes; exhaust work, removing and replacing spark plugs, replacing cover gasket, and fuel service. Any amount will help as the car is still at the shop."

If you are interested in donating towards this pressing need, or would like to perform work on their car, let Kate Ramsey or myself (Mark Hodge) know.
