Wednesday Devotion 9-9-26

Confidence.

Are you a confident person? Do you approach life head on, confidently, or is your approach more timid in nature? As Christians, each of us should be able to confidently move from this thing to that thing.

What we need to ask ourselves is; where does my confidence come from? Does it come from me, does it come from my abilities and my tools, or does it come from God?

Psalm 20, verse 7 tells us exactly where our confidence should come from when it says…

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7, ESV)

So, if you lack confidence, trust in the Lord. As you grow in your faith, you will find that your confidence grows with it. Even if the things you face look like strong armies with chariots and horses charging at you, nothing is so big that you can’t trust God to handle it.

There is nothing wrong with having confidence in your abilities, knowledge, and skills, as long as you acknowledge that they come from God. When you do, it becomes confidence through the Lord.

In whom, or what, do you place your trust, and where does your confidence come from? Trust in Jesus, and like David, you can slay the giants of life.

Father God, thank You for allowing me to have Your confidence. Help me find my confidence in You by trusting fully in You. Amen!

Tuesday Devotion 9-8-26

Contentment.

When is enough, enough? When do we quit wishing we had more? When do we stop trying to pack more and more stuff into our life? We like our stuff. We collect so much stuff that there are massive storage facilities where you can rent space to put the “extra” stuff that you have acquired.

When do we reach a point when we say enough is enough? For the believer, having salvation through Christ should be enough.

1 Timothy 6:6-7 reminds us…

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. (1 Timothy 6:6–7, ESV)

What we should understand here is that the things we are heaping up here on earth, during our short pilgrimage here, do not matter. What matters is our salvation through Christ, and how we minister to others.

The things we cherish here and try to accumulate will be done away with by those we leave behind. If you are going to accumulate anything, accumulate relationships. First, your relationship with Christ; make it better every day. Second, your relationships with others; make them feel loved and appreciated.

Be content!

It is okay to have stuff. It is okay to have things, but you should evaluate your reasons for having those things. If it is so you can say “look what I have”, or simply to have the most, then you will never be content. As soon as someone else has something better, or has more, you will race out to get more.

Try to be content with what you have, because, as believers in Christ, you already have everything!

Father God, thank You for all that you allow me to have. Thank You for giving me the one thing that should be enough; Jesus. Help me to be content. Help me to build relationships with others so I can share my greatest relationship and friend with them. Help me to share Christ with everyone. Amen!

Monday Devotion 9-7-26

Labor Day.

I think we can all agree that God is the creator of all good gifts and graces. And I think we can all agree that God created work for us to do. So, I think it is logical to determine that the work God gives us to do is a gift.

We might not agree on that fact, and if we don’t, maybe we are doing our work with the wrong motives.

Colossians 3:23 tells us…

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, (Colossians 3:23, ESV)

Scripture also tells us that when our work is done for the Lord, He will establish our ways. He will go before us in that work. So maybe, if your work, or your labors, are tedious and unsatisfying, commit that work to the Lord.

It has always been God’s intention that we work. We can come to that conclusion simply by looking at where, and why, He placed the first man, Adam.

Genesis 2:15 says…

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. (Genesis 2:15, ESV)

We are expected to work. For six days we are expected to labor and then on the seventh we are to follow God’s example, and His command, and we are to rest.

Every day is Labor Day in that we do the work that God has given us to do. We do it to His glory and honor. Work is a gift, and we should treat it as a gift.

Let’s thank God for His gifts, do our work for Him, and take our rest when He tells us to.

Father God, thank You for the gift of work. Thank You for the opportunities You give me to serve others by serving You in that work. Help me see my labors as a gift, offer them to You, and do them without grumbling. Amen!
