Tuesday Camp Devotion

“Hallowed be Your name”.

Have you ever recited “The Lord’s Prayer”? Most of us have. We recite it at many different times for many different reasons. After all, it is the model prayer given to us in Scripture by Jesus when He is asked by His disciples to teach them how to pray.

We looked at these four words last night during our chapel session. We learned that the word “Hallowed” means to be set apart, made important. We learned that when it comes to our relationship with God He is to be set apart as THE most important thing in our life.

So the question must be answered… what do you set apart as truly Hallowed in your life. Whatever that thing is that we make the most important thing, if it is not the Holy God of heaven, then we are not Hallowing the Name of God.

When we make God our priority we begin to have a more personal and intimate relationship with Him, and that is what prayer is about. Not getting answers, but relationship.

If we look at the most important relationships with friends and family, we will probably see that we talk to that person a great deal. This is the kind of relationship God wants us to pursue with Him. We should talk with Him a lot, hallowing His name, making Him the most important thing in our life.

In Jeremiah 29:12 we read…

Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

Our prayer life, and therefore our relationship with God will be exponentially better when we make Him the most important part of it.

Father God, help me to Hallow your name, to look at your creation, your involvement in my life, and desire nothing more than making you and a relationship with you the most important thing. Amen!

Monday Devotion

Waking up this morning at youth camp for our first full day, and thinking about our topic this week of prayer, I wonder what motivates me to pray. Do I pray because I am supposed to as a Christian? Do I pray so I can ask God, or tell God, what I want or what I expect Him to do for me? Or, do I pray because in prayer, I know I am communicating with Him, motivated to pray simply because I know He loves me and wants me to pursue Him in conversation?

What is your motivation to pray?

1 John 5:14 encourages us to pray with confidence when it says…

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Our motivation to pray should be, in part, to know His will as He invites us to serve along side Him.

Father God, help me to pray. Help me to pray your will. Help me to pray understanding my motives, making sure they are centered around you and not selfish prayers. Amen!
