Dear Jewcla Family!
I often overhear on UCLA campus the tour guides bragging as they welcome visitors to the #1 public research university in the US.
For the Jewish Bruin community a different kind of ranking is of utmost concern: is UCLA one of the most antisemitic colleges in the world? Has it become, instead of a place of FIAT LUX (let there be light), a place of darkness and hate? ...
I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that the ultimate answer to antisemitism (or in plain language, Jew-hatred) is Jew-love. The real answer to darkness is shining a light on it.
We are now in our 19th year of shining light and sharing love for Jewish students at UCLA, and the love has grown so much!
So would you please join us on this eve of Yom Kippur in shining your light and showering Jewish students at UCLA with more love? As well as with more things that Jewish students love to do, like Shabbat (300+ on week zero, and 237 students joined us last week), Jewish knowledge (16 new Sinai Scholars and three dozen JewishU class participants), Jewish holidays and Jewish pride (scores of Shabbat candles, tefillin wraps on Bruin Walk and mezuzahs in the dorms are happening every week!).
Whether you can give $1,800 or $18, every bit gives them the love and the Jewish home they sorely need in this day-and-age.

PPS I would be remiss in omitting the greatest Happy Birthday wishes to the two most important women in my life, who share a birthday:
my mother, upon reaching the milestone 70th birthday - to many more in good health!
and my wife Elisa, the tireless bundle of energy and a fountain of youth for our college youth, who makes it all happen!
L'chaim to a year of blessings and success in everything!
