One of the prayers I keep coming back to is: “Lord, show me what needs to change in ME.”
It’s easy to recognize what someone else needs to work on…
👉 It’s a lot harder to sit with correction long enough to ask whether there might actually be something God wants US to see.
That doesn’t mean every criticism we receive is true. People can be wrong about us. But I never want my first response to correction to always be defensiveness.
Sometimes God uses His Word.
Sometimes He uses conviction from the Holy Spirit.
And sometimes He uses another person to point out something we’ve been unable - or unwilling - to see ourselves.
A teachable heart is willing to ask:
“Lord, is there any truth in this that You want me to hear?”
Not because every voice deserves authority in our lives, but because God does.🙏🤎✝️
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."” Psalm 139:23–24

Gracious and loving God,

We come before You today with grateful hearts, but also with hearts that may be weary and uncertain. You know the challenges we are facing as a congregation. You know the things that trouble us, the questions we carry, the concerns we may not always speak aloud, and the burdens each person brings through these doors.

Lord, remind us that we do not walk through these difficult days alone. You are with us—in our uncertainty, in our conversations, in our decisions, in our disappointments, and in our hopes for tomorrow. When we cannot see clearly what lies ahead, help us trust that You are already there.

Give us hearts that seek understanding rather than division, compassion rather than judgment, and patience rather than frustration. Help us listen to one another with grace and speak to one another with kindness. When disagreements arise, remind us that we are first and foremost Your people and that our love for You and for one another is greater than the things that divide us.

Strengthen our congregation, Lord. Give wisdom to those who lead, courage to those who serve, and renewed energy to those who feel weary. Help each of us remember that every act of kindness, every prayer, every helping hand, and every word of encouragement matters.

When we are tempted to look backward with regret or forward with fear, help us instead to look to You. Remind us of all the ways You have carried Your people through difficult times before. You have never abandoned us, and You will not abandon us now.

Plant within us a renewed hope. Help us believe that something beautiful can grow even in seasons that feel barren. May this challenging time become an opportunity for deeper faith, stronger relationships, greater compassion, and a renewed sense of Your presence among us.

Lord, bring peace to our hearts and unity to our congregation. Help us be a people who encourage one another, pray for one another, forgive one another, and lift one another up.

And when we cannot see the path ahead, give us enough light for the next step.

We place this congregation, our future, and our lives into Your loving hands, trusting in the promise that You are with us, You are for us, and You will never leave us.

May we leave today not discouraged by what is difficult, but strengthened by the hope of what is possible with You.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and our hope, we pray.

Amen.
