Today, as we wrap up our series on Paul's letter to the Colossians, we thank God that He has preserved His Holy Word for us through the centuries, including this wonderful letter, written to a small, out-of-the-way Church, that we know today as Colossians.

The Christian faith and life demands your all; it affects every aspect of your being and is seen in every area of your life. Jesus described it as loving the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all of your might. Martin Luther describes it as fearing, loving, and trusting in God above all things. In the book of Colossians, St Paul says that The Christian faith and life is so significant that you have actually been raised with Christ in His resurrection! Paul teaches us is that the Christian faith and life is serious business. The Christian faith and life is not child’s play, it’s not a part time job, but rather an all-in lifestyle!

One the ways that the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is taught to us is in terms of freedom. Because of Christ, and His work as Savior of the world, you have been set free from trying to work out your own salvation; you have been set free from the burden of trying to make up for your own sins. You have been set free from even trying to save yourself from sin, guilt and death! You have been set free from that impossible burden of making up for your sins! You have been set free because God sent His Son Jesus to take that burden from you. The work of salvation falls on Jesus, not on you! You can rest in Jesus! He does the work of salvation for you!
