Our service is full of Scripture! Every Sunday, we have four readings from the Bible. Have you ever wondered why?

Christian worship has included scripture from the beginning. As Episcopalians part of the Anglican communion, we believe that God speaks to us in many ways. The most important way is through the Bible.

Because of this, each week we hear a reading from the Old Testament, a Psalm, a reading from the New Testament, and a reading form one of the Gospels. The readings aren't random! We select them weekly from a “Common Lectionary” used by churches around the world to determine what readings will be part of worship each week.

Did you know there's a rhyme and a reason for every part of our worship service?

The Episcopal church is deeply routed in the Anglican tradition, and we're spending the next few Sundays learning all about the purpose behind our traditions.

This past Sunday, we learned why our services start the way they do. The Opening Acclamation and Collect of Purity remind us that worship begins with God's action, not ours. We gather because God has called us together. As we enter God’s presence, we ask God to prepare our hearts. This prayer, or Collect of Purity, has shaped Anglican worship since the first Prayer Book of 1549.

The HT Youth Group ended the summer a few weeks ago with a trip to Platte River State Park. They played volleyball, fished, and even took paddle boats out on the water!

We'll miss all of our fun summer activities, but we are excited for all that awaits us this fall!
