Today is the first day of the Dormition fast. Throughout the fast some of us are praying the prayer rule of the Theotokos (Byzantine Rosary).

First mystery: the nativity of the Theotokos.

Let us pray for all mothers, fathers, and children of the world.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. But lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. Amen.

Rejoice O holy Virgin Theotokos! Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. For thou hast born Christ, the savior and redeemer of our souls. x 10

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen

O my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of thy mercy.

Troparion:
Thy nativity, O Virgin Theotokos, hath proclaimed joy to all the world; for from thee hath dawned the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, annulling the curse and bestowing the blessing, abolishing death and granting us life eternal. Amen.

July 20th - Feast of the Prophet Elijah, Name day for those called Elijah.

The holy and glorious prophet Elijah the Tishbite was a prophet of the Lord in the days of Ahab, the king of Israel and defended the rights of the one God against the unfaithful people with such a strength of spirit that he prefigured not only John the Baptist but even Christ himself. Written prophecies do not remain, but his memory is faithfully kept, especially on Mount Carmel.

Troparion:
An angel in the flesh, the foundation of the prophets, and the second forerunner of Christ, the glorious Elijah from on high sent grace to Elisha to cure sickness and cleanse lepers. He likewise overflows with healing for those who honor him.

Kontakion:
Prophet and seer of the mighty deeds of our God, renowned Elijah, you stopped the rain clouds by a word. Intercede for us with the only One who loves mankind.

To All of You with the name of Olha (Olya, Olga, Helga, Alge,) wishing you a Blessed Names day!

Saint Olha of Kyiv was the Grand Duchess of Kyivan Rus. She was the wife of Grand Duke Ihor, Mother of Grand Duke Sviatoslav the Brave, and grandmother to Grand Duke Saint Volodymyr the Great. Saint Olha is known as an Equal to the Apostles for her role in spreading Christianity throughout Slavic lands. She was the first Kyivan regent to accept the Christian faith. Her grandson Volodymyr would later convert the Kyivan Rus empire (in the eastern Christian Constantinople tradition) in 988AD, at the banks of the Dnipro River, in what is today Kyiv, Ukraine.

“Oh great and holy Olha, Duchess of Kyiv, Equal to The Apostles and first Saint of Kyiv, through your intercession, we pray that Our Lord, the Great and Almighty, protect our beloved Ukraine, Bless her with freedom and light of holy rays of peace.
